Age-related Changes of Corneal Endothelium in Normal Eyes with a Non-Contact Specular Microscope

چکیده
Specular microscopy is a very important diagnostic tool to evaluate corneal endothelial function through the evaluation of the morphology changes of this cell layer. Current technology allows the non-invasive, accurate observation and automatic morphological evaluation of this important corneal layer. It is well known that the endothelium changes with age1-3, contact lens wear4 and certain systemic pathologies as diabetes mellitus5. However, intra-ocular ophthalmic surgery is perhaps the higher risk factor for the loss of endothelial cells6-8, and is in this aspect that these instruments become more important in clinical practice. In addition to the endothelial morphologic characterization, specular microscopes also measure corneal corneal thickness (CCT)9-15. The lack of contact with the cornea in noncontact specular microscopes is an important advantage for this kind of measurement compared to other instruments that require contact with the cornea as is the case

Background: In this study were focused on corneal cells changes in keratoconus disease, as there are differences between results of other studies that were done on keratokonic eyes. And the chief purpose was a comparison between keratoconus and normal population based corneal endothelium (in cell density, pleomorphism and polymegethism of cells). Methods: This study is an observational study a...

PURPOSE This study was conducted to compare the corneal endothelial cell density (ECD), morphological features, and central corneal thickness (CCT) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) with age-matched, nondiabetic control subjects using EM-3000 Specular Microscope. STUDY DESIGN This was a prospective, hospital-based, nonrandomized, case-control, observational, and quantitative study. SUBJECTS ...

AIMS To report the appearances of cornea guttata and Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy from white light confocal microscopy. METHODS Seven eyes of four consecutive patients with cornea guttata were prospectively examined. Of the seven eyes, three also had corneal oedema (Fuchs' dystrophy). In vivo white light tandem scanning confocal microscopy was performed in all eyes. Results were compared with...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the corneal endothelial morphometry and central corneal thickness (CCT) in pseudoexfoliative (PEX) eyes with and without glaucoma and to compare with normal eyes and eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). METHOD A total of 166 patients were included in this study: 36 eyes with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS), 30 eyes with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG), 40 eyes...
