چکیده
cerebellopontine angle, the mastoid, the middle ear and the external auditory canal. Of these, the mastoid cavity is the least frequent site of origin. Herein, we report an extremely rare case of congenital cholesteatoma of mastoid origin with extension into the epitympanum and presentation of conductive hearing loss. Computed tomography (CT) displayed anatomic anomalies including ossicular erosion, exposure of the dura, and dehiscence and exposure of the facial nerve. This patient was successfully treated with canal wall up mastoidectomy with ossicular reconstruction. The hearing threshold showed significant improvement, and there has been no recurrence during 18 month-follow-up.

Introduction. Congenital cholesteatoma is a pearly white mass that rarely originates from the mastoid process. Case Report. A 21-year-old male patient presented to our department with severe right mastoid pain and postauricular fluctuant swelling for 23 days. There was no preceding history of ear complaints and examination showed a normal right ear drum. Emergency exploration of the mastoid pro...

Introduction: This study was designed to evaluate the usefulness of mastoid cavity obliteration with combined bone pâté and Palva flap in the prevention of problematic mastoid cavities after canal wall down mastoidectomy. Materials and Methods: In a prospective longitudinal study with a mean follow-up of 28 months conducted between 2008–2012, a series of 56 ears in 48 patients with chronic ot...
متن کاملEndoscopic Middle Ear and Mastoid Surgery for Cholesteatoma
Introduction: To reduce incidence of residual cholesteatoma following ear surgery; and to reduce the need for second look “open” mastoidectomy using endoscopic mastoidotomy. Ten-year retrospective chart review of 249 primary cholesteatoma cases (1994-2004) with a minimum follow-up of two years. The first objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of otoendoscopy in reducing the incidence of “...
متن کاملCongenital cholesteatoma extending into the internal auditory canal and cochlea: a case report.
We report here on a case of congenital cholesteatoma that extended into the internal auditory meatus and cochlea. A 17-year-old boy underwent surgery for a very large cholesteatoma, which was discovered behind an intact tympanic membrane. Pure tone audiometry revealed an unresponsive ear. High resolution temporal bone computed tomography showed perilabyrinthine extension with its absence in the...
متن کاملCongenital Cholesteatoma Isolated to Mastoid Process : a Case Report
Congenital cholesteatoma(CC) accounts for 25% of all cholesteatomas[1] most common site being middle ear. We report an extremely rare case of congenital cholesteatoma isolated to the mastoid process, with no middle ear involvement. An 18 year old male presented with ear ache and minimal discharge for 4 months. On examination, external auditory canal was found narrowed with granulations and bony...
