William Seymour and African Pentecostal Historiography: the Case of Ghana

چکیده

At the world Mission conference in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1910, Africa was not represented. Afiica was not part of the Christendom and was thus not a key player in Christian missions. However, there had been major sustained missionary activities in Sub-Saharan Africa nearly a century earlier. Why did these activities not result in making Africa (at least) a minor player in world Christianity? Why was Africa still seen as a mission field, and as a result African Christianity was still dependent on the North for its sustenance. During the celebration of the centennial of William J. Seymour, it is appropriate to trace his impact on not only Pentecostalism, but the historical development of African Christianity on which he made a significant impact.
