A flexible semiparametric model for time series

چکیده
We consider approximating a multivariate regression function by an affi ne combination of one-dimensional conditional component regression functions. The weight parameters involved in the approximation are estimated by least squares on the first-stage nonparametric kernel estimates. We establish asymptotic normality for the estimated weights and the regression function in two cases: the number of the covariates is finite, and the number of the covariates is diverging. As the observations are assumed to be stationary and near epoch dependent, the approach in this paper is applicable to estimation and forecasting issues in time series analysis. Furthermore, the methods and results are augmented by a simulation study and illustrated by application in the analysis of the Australian annual mean temperature anomaly series. We also apply our methods to high frequency volatility forecasting, where we obtain superior results to parametric methods. JEL subject classifications: C14, C22.

Semiparametric Bootstrap Prediction Intervals in time Series
One of the main goals of studying the time series is estimation of prediction interval based on an observed sample path of the process. In recent years, different semiparametric bootstrap methods have been proposed to find the prediction intervals without any assumption of error distribution. In semiparametric bootstrap methods, a linear process is approximated by an autoregressive process. The...
متن کاملA Flexible Semiparametric Forecasting Model for Time Series
In this paper, we propose a semiparametric procedure called the “Model Averaging MArginal Regression” (MAMAR) that is flexible for forecasting of time series. This procedure considers approximating a multivariate regression function by an affine combination of one-dimensional marginal regression functions. The weight parameters involved in the approximation are estimated by least squares on the...
متن کاملModel and Variable Selection Procedures for Semiparametric Time Series Regression
Semiparametric regression models are very useful for time series analysis. They facilitate the detection of features resulting from external interventions. The complexity of semiparametric models poses new challenges for issues of nonparametric and parametric inference and model selection that frequently arise from time series data analysis. In this paper, we propose penalized least squares est...
متن کاملAn introduction to efficient estimation for semiparametric time series
We illustrate several recent results on efficient estimation for semiparametric time series models with two types of AR(1) models: having independent and centered innovations, and having general and conditionally centered innovations. We consider in particular estimation of the autoregression parameter, the stationary distribution, the innovation distribution, and the stationary density.

In this paper, we consider using a semiparametric regression approach to modelling non-linear autoregressive time series. Based on a ®nite series approximation to non-parametric components, an adaptive selection procedure for the number of summands in the series approximation is proposed. Meanwhile, a large sample study is detailed and a small sample simulation for the Mackey±Glass system is pr...
