Comparison of histochemical autometallography (Danscher's stain) to chemical analysis for detection of selenium in tissues.

چکیده
Selenium intoxication induces a variety of clinical syndromes, such as chronic dystrophic digital lesions in horses, cattle, and swine (alkali disease), poliomyelomalacia in pigs, and myocardial necrosis in various species. Diagnosis of selenosis is currently based on the presence of characteristic lesions, combined with chemical analysis (more than 2 and 10 μg/g selenium in blood and hair, respectively). 9

Histochemical demonstration of two mercury pools in trout tissues: mercury in kidney and liver after mercuric chloride exposure.
Juvenile rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) were exposed to 100 ppb mercury (as HgCl2) in the water for 14 days. Concentrations of mercury in water and fish organs were monitored using radiolabeled mercury. Tissues from kidney and liver were fixed, and sections were developed by autometallography, a method whereby accumulations of mercury sulfides and/or mercury selenides are silver amplified. In ...

Introduction: Selenium is an essential element for human health and it is toxic at high concentrations. Selenium is a constituent component of selenoproteins that have enzymatic and structural roles in human biochemistry. Selenium is a best antioxidant and catalyst for production of thyroid hormone. This element has the key role in the immune function prevention of AIDS progression and the de...
متن کاملThe effects of different concentrations of selenium and zinc nanoparticles on growth performance, survival and chemical composition of Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of selenium and zinc nanoparticles on growth performance, survival and chemical composition of Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). For this purpose, shrimp with an average weight of 5.1±0.2 g were distributed in 12 fiberglass tanks with 25 shrimp density and were fed for 56 days with different concentrations of sele...
متن کاملComparison of three different staining methods for the morphometric characterization of Alpaca (Vicugna pacos) sperm, using ISAS® CASA-Morph system
Sperm morphometry is a part of the semen analysis based on CASA technology and has shown a big role in the prediction of male fertility. This analysis implies the use of stain techniques, although it has been shown that staining can make dramatic changes in the cell morphometry in different species. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the differences in sperm morphometry in Alpaca, intr...
