چکیده
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) patients to decrease the incidence of cardiovascular events.1 Above all, mucosal injuries associated with inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, resulting in GI ulceration and bleeding, is a major side effect of the drug.1 Therefore, a concomitant use of Aspirin and Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) has been approved for CAD patients to prevent mucosa associated disorders.2

متن کاملClopidogrel and proton pump inhibitors: influence of pharmacological interactions on clinical outcomes and mechanistic explanations.
Dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel is associated with a significant reduction in vascular ischemic events; however, gastrointestinal bleeding events are a major concern in high-risk and older patients. Clinical practice guidelines recommend combination therapy with proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and dual antiplatelet therapy to attenuate gastrointestinal bleeding risk. In addi...
متن کاملPractical approaches to minimizing gastrointestinal and cardiovascular safety concerns with COX-2 inhibitors and NSAIDs
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are highly effective in treating the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but it is well recognized that these agents are associated with substantial gastrointestinal toxicity. Treatment guidelines suggest that patients with one or more risk factors for NSAID associated ulcers should be prescribed preventive...
متن کاملResponse to letters regarding article, "unexpected effect of proton pump inhibitors: elevation of the cardiovascular risk factor asymmetric dimethylarginine".
BACKGROUND Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are gastric acid-suppressing agents widely prescribed for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Recently, several studies in patients with acute coronary syndrome have raised the concern that use of PPIs in these patients may increase their risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. The mechanism of this possible adverse effect is not known...
متن کاملCurrent state of therapy for pain and inflammation
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including both traditional nonselective NSAIDs and the selective cyclo-oxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitors, are among the most widely used medications in the USA. Traditional NSAIDs, although effective at relieving pain and inflammation, are associated with a significant increase in the risk for gastrointestinal adverse events. Throughout the 1990s these ...
