[Metal color hiding effect and adhesive strength of an adhesive resin 'Panavia'].

The first purpose of this study is to provide more excellent characteristics to hide the metal color of an adhesion bridge's retainer for an adhesive resin 'Panavia '. This metal color hiding effect was attained by adding titanium dioxide and other inorganic tints in it. Secondly, the tensile adhesive strength and the adhesive durability of the adhesive opaque resin were compared with 'Panavia'. The conclusions obtained were as follows. 1. When the metal retainer was pressed on to the lingual surface of extracted upper central incisors without an adhesive, the incisal one third of the labial surface was darkened. 2. The metal color hiding effect of'Panavia' was insufficient. 3. The tensile adhesive strength of 'Panavia' was not decreased when the volume of titanium dioxide contained is within 5.0 wt%. 4. It has been proved that the light yellow adhesive opaque resin (L=87.5, a =0.1, b=21.0) containing 5 wt% titanium dioxide and 0.1 wt% other inorganic tints could hide the color of the metal retainer most effectively and that its tensile adhesive strength and its adhesive durability were approximately the same as those of 'Panavia'.
