A Rapidly Converging Phase Field Model

چکیده
We propose a phase field model that approximates its limiting sharp interface model (free boundary problem) up to second order in interface thickness. A broad range of double-well potentials can be utilized so long as the dynamical coefficient in the phase equation is adjusted appropriately. This model thereby assures that computation with particular value of interface thickness ε, will differ at most by O(ε2) from the limiting sharp interface problem. As an illustration, the speed of a traveling wave of the phase field model is asymptotically expanded to demonstrate that it differs from the speed of the traveling wave of the limit problem by O(ε2).

Rapidly Converging Phase Field Models via Second Order Asymptotics
We consider phase field models with the objective of approximating sharp interface models. By using second order asymptotics in the interface thickness parameter, ε, we develop models in which the order ε term is eliminated, suggesting more rapid convergence to the ε = 0 (sharp interface) limit. In addition we use non-smooth potentials with a non-zero gradient at the roots. These changes result...
متن کاملA primal-dual active set method and predictor-corrector mesh adaptivity for computing fracture propagation using a phase-field approach
In this paper, we consider phase-field-based fracture propagation in elastic media. The main purpose is the development of a robust and efficient numerical scheme. To enforce crack irreversibility as a constraint, we use a primal-dual active set strategy, which can be identified as a semi-smooth Newton’s method. The active set iteration is merged with the Newton iteration for solving the fully-...

In this paper, we present the formulation of a finite-element/boundary-integral method for the analysis of three-dimensional doubly periodic structures based on arbitrary nonorthogonal lattice configurations. The method starts from a functional description of the field problem where only a single unit cell of the array is considered. This unit cell is meshed with triangular prismatic volume ele...
متن کاملLocal-field correction for an interstitial impurity in a crystal.
The local-field correction experienced by an interstitial impurity in a crystal with cubic symmetry is derived by use of a rigorous, self-consistent, semimicroscopic description of spontaneous emission in a microcavity. We compute the local-field factor for various positions of the impurity inside the crystal. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the local-field factor can be computed from a simple...
