Jurković, Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka, Rijeka, Croatia Due to their mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, nickel-based alloys are generally included among materials that are hard to machine. An experimental study has been performed to investigate the capabilities of conventional and high-pressure jet assisted (HPJA) turning of hard-to-machine materials, namely Inconel 718. The capabilities of diff erent hard turning procedures are compared by means of chip breakability. The obtained results show that HPJA method off ers a signifi cant increase in chip breakability, under the same cutting conditions (cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut).

متن کاملVibration Sensor Monitoring of Nickel-Titanium Alloy Turning for Machinability Evaluation
Nickel-Titanium (Ni-Ti) alloys are very difficult-to-machine materials causing notable manufacturing problems due to their unique mechanical properties, including superelasticity, high ductility, and severe strain-hardening. In this framework, the aim of this paper is to assess the machinability of Ni-Ti alloys with reference to turning processes in order to realize a reliable and robust in-pro...
متن کاملEnhanced ultrasonically assisted turning of a β-titanium alloy.
Although titanium alloys have outstanding mechanical properties such as high hot hardness, a good strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance; their low thermal conductivity, high chemical affinity to tool materials severely impair their machinability. Ultrasonically assisted machining (UAM) is an advanced machining technique, which has been shown to improve machinability of a β-tita...

A high strength nickel chromium alloy (50Cr-50Ni-Nb alloy), commonly referred to as IN-657, is specifically used for components in furnaces which are fired by low grade fuel oils containing high levels of vanadium, sodium and sulphur. The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigatethe effect of machining parameters on machinability in turning of Inconel 657. The considered parameters...
