چکیده

Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) is routinely used mainly for diagnostics and monitoring of many oncological diseases. However, fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose as a radiopharmaceutical is not an exclusively tumour-specific tracer and numerous inflammatory diseases may be evaluated as well. An inflammatory lesion showing high 18F-FDG accumulation is likely to have high metabolic activity. Herein we report a case of a man, who presented with low-back pain and increased acute-phase proteins due to inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Multiple 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography Scans Showing Progression of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Although the precise mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) remain unclear, aortic wall inflammation has been implicated in AAA development. Several studies have reported the use of fluoro-deoxyglucose (F-FDG)/positron emission tomography (PET) to assess the nature of AAA.We present a case of 77-year-old Japanese male with juxta-anastomotic AAA who was followe...

Generalized lymph node activation after Influenza vaccination on 18F FDG-PET/CT imaging, an important pitfall in PET interpretation

We report on a 59-year-old female patient with an infected vascular graft investigated with 18F FDG-PET/CT. The first of two studies showed FDG activity in the left deltoid and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes explained by influenza vaccination the day prior. The second 18F FDG-PET/CT showed multiple FDG-avid lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm without tracer accumulation at the vaccinat...

Increased 18F-FDG uptake is predictive of rupture in a novel rat abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture model.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) micro-positron emission tomography (micro-PET) can predict abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture. BACKGROUND An infrarenal AAA model is needed to study inflammatory mechanisms that drive rupture. F-FDG PET can detect vascular inflammation in animal models and patients. METHODS After exposing Sprague-Dawley rats to intra-aortic po...

Inflammatory Pseudotumor in the Epidural Space of the Lumbosacral Spine on F-18 FDG PET/CT

An inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) is a rare benign lesion, characterized by nonneoplastic proliferation of inflammatory cells and presence of intermingling collagen fibers. IPT commonly occurs in the lungs and orbita, while an intraspinal IPT is extremely rare. IPT can mimic both clinically and radiologically malignant processes, and making a definitive preoperative diagnosis is often difficult...

18F-FDG PET scanning of abdominal aortic aneurysms and correlation with molecular characteristics: a systematic review

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to give an overview of studies investigating the role of fludeoxyglucose F18 ((18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) scanning in patients with aortic aneurysms with a focus on molecular characteristics of the aneurysm wall. METHODS MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane database were searched for relevant articles. After inclusion and exclusion, we selec...
