Inelasticity for hadron-carbon nucleus collisions from emulsion chamber
نویسنده
چکیده
The inelasticity of hadron-carbon collisions for energies exceeding 100 TeV is estimated from the carbonemulsion chamber data at Pamirs to be 〈KC〉 = 0.65± 0.08. When combined with data on hadron-lead collisions taken at the same energy range it results in the K ∼ A mass number dependence of inelasticity. The evaluated partial inelasticity for secondary (ν > 1) interactions, Kν>1 ≃ 0.2, suggests that most of the energy is lost in the first interaction.

Leading nucleon and inelasticity in hadron-nucleus interactions
We present in this paper a calculation of the average proton-nucleus inelasticity. Using an Iterative Leading Particle Model and the Glauber model we relate the leading particle distribution in nucleon-nucleus interactions with the respective one in nucleon-proton collisions. To describe the leading particle distribution in nucleon-proton collisions we use the Regge-Mueller formalism.

Abstract. The baryon number transfer is studied in elementary and complex hadronic interactions at the CERN experiment NA49 at the SPS, at 158 AGeV beam energy ( √ s = 17.2GeV ). A two component picture is proposed, which builds up the net proton distribution from a target and a projectile component. Using pion beam, the projectile component is experimentally determined for p+p and p+A interact...
متن کاملThree steps in intranuclear cascading
Between the initial excitation of nucleons by the passing throughout each other and the final cascading of newly created hadrons there should be considered one more step. We call it the second step cascading process. It acts as an interaction of wounded nucleon from one nucleus with another nucleon from the same nucleus. This mechanism leads to the significant increase on the inelasticity for n...
متن کاملInelasticity and intranuclear cascading in geometrical multichain model
The inelasticity in nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies is calculated in the framework of geometrical multichain model. The very fast increase of the inelasticity is found as a result of a second-stage cascading process. The same behaviour is expected for all the models using the wounded nucleon idea. The simple formula for the number of wounded nucleons inside colliding nuclei does not...
متن کاملEmulsion Cloud Chamber technique to measure the fragmentation of a high-energy carbon beam
Beams of Carbon nuclei are now in use or planned to be used in various centers for cancer treatment around the world. The knowledge of the fragmentation of Carbon nuclei when they interact with the human body is important for evaluating of the spatial profile of their energy deposition in the tissues, hence the damage to tissues neighbouring the tumor. To this purpose, the identification of the...
