An Electromyographic Analysis of Normal Shoulder Muscular Co-ordination During Activities of Daily Living

چکیده
INTRODUCTION The minimal bony constraint of the glenohumeral joint (GHJ) enables it to achieve a remarkable range of motion. Consequently, the stability of the joint must be maintained by the surrounding soft tissue structures; in particular the rotator cuff. The data available on normal shoulder function is sparse due to complex kinematics of the GHJ and technical difficulties in acquiring the data. Previous studies have been limited to planar shoulder movements which presents significant limitations when considering the function of the shoulder during activities of daily living. This study aims to define the activation patterns and coordination of muscles and muscle groups around the shoulder during activities similar to those of daily living. This will provide a better understanding of the normal shoulder function and hence, a basis for understanding the potential impact of shoulder pathology.

F,lectromyographic and kinematic analysis of the shoulder during four activities of daily living in men with tetraplegia
The pattern of motor paralysis that commonly follows C6 tetraplegia creates an increased demand on upper limb function . The present investigation documented shoulder motion and muscular activity during planar motions and four activities of daily living (ADLs) in 15 men with spinal cord injuries (SCI) resulting in C6 tetraplegia. Three-dimensional (3-D) shoulder motion was recorded using a VICO...
متن کاملThe use of electromyographic biofeedback in treating a client with tension headaches.
EMG biofeedback was used during a 4-week treatment program to decrease upper trapezius activity related to tension headaches. The headaches were believed to be caused by general tension and anxiety and affected the patient's ability to adequately attend to activities of daily living, including child care, homemaking, and vocational activities. The program combined deep-breathing exercises, prog...
متن کاملEvaluation of effects of shoulder girdle training on strength and performance of activities of daily living in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
BACKGROUND Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have some limitations during activities of daily living that involve the arms. There is little information on the benefits of shoulder girdle training and its repercussions for activities of daily living in patients with COPD. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether shoulder girdle training with diagonal movement...
متن کاملQuantitative assessment of the EMG patterns of upper limb muscles during robotic rehabilitation
Human upper limb is involved in many daily human activities. The muscle activities during basic and daily upper-limb motions are an important area of research in rehabilitation field in order to evaluate the recovery of patients affected by congenital or acquired brain injury. Much better results in sensorimotor and cognitive processes are promised by the emerging robot-mediated therapy. Althou...
متن کاملComparison of electromyographic activity of shoulder muscles during two different pull-up test methods
Pull-up and modified pull-up tests are frequently used for shoulder muscles endurance evaluation by physical educators. Despite of using these tests, the difference of muscle activation pattern in pull-up and modified pull-up tests has not been documented clearly. However, the role of some important muscles such as anterior deltoid, posterior deltoid, trapezius and latissimus dorsi have no...
