چکیده

This paper reports on a novel template-free monocular non-rigid surface reconstruction approach. Existing techniques using motion and deformation cues rely on multiple prior assumptions, are often computationally expensive and do not perform equally well across the variety of data sets. In contrast, the proposed Scalable Monocular Surface Reconstruction (SMSR) combines strengths of several algorithms, i.e., it is scalable with the number of points, can handle sparse and dense settings as well as different types of motions and deformations. We estimate camera pose by singular value thresholding and proximal gradient. Our formulation adopts alternating direction method of multipliers which converges in linear time for large point track matrices. In the proposed SMSR, trajectory space constraints are integrated by smoothing of the measurement matrix. In the extensive experiments, SMSR is demonstrated to consistently achieve state-of-the-art accuracy on a wide variety of data sets.

Learning Deeply Supervised Visual Descriptors for Dense Monocular Reconstruction

Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) methods typically rely on handcrafted visual features or raw RGB values for establishing correspondences between images. These features, while suitable for sparse mapping, often lead to ambiguous matches at texture-less regions when performing dense reconstruction due to the aperture problem. In this work, we explore the use of learned feature...

HDM-Net: Monocular Non-Rigid 3D Reconstruction with Learned Deformation Model

Monocular dense 3D reconstruction of deformable objects is a hard ill-posed problem in computer vision. Current techniques either require dense correspondences and rely on motion and deformation cues, or assume a highly accurate reconstruction (referred to as a template) of at least a single frame given in advance and operate in the manner of non-rigid tracking. Accurate computation of dense po...

Tissue Shape Acquisition with a Hybrid Structured Light and Photometric Stereo Endoscopic System

In situ 3D reconstruction from endoscopic images is important to determine the correct course of action for, e.g., treatment of abnormal growths. Currently, the endoscopist has to rely solely on visual cues in order to infer the growth’s shape and size and determine an appropriate treatment. However, tissue uniformity and scale ambiguity from traditional monocular endoscopes make this visual as...

Probabilistic Semi-Dense Mapping from Highly Accurate Feature-Based Monocular SLAM

In the last years several direct (i.e. featureless) monocular SLAM approaches have appeared showing impressive semi-dense or dense scene reconstructions. These works have questioned the need of features, in which consolidated SLAM techniques of the last decade were based. In this paper we present a novel feature-based monocular SLAM system that is more robust, gives more accurate camera poses, ...

Locally Affine and Planar Deformable Surface Reconstruction from Video

We present new solutions to tackle the problem of reconstructing a deforming surface viewed in monocular videos without a template, by exploiting the fact that many deforming surfaces are on the local scale approximately rigid and planar. The reconstruction task can then be seen, from bottom up as first multi-plane based pose estimation then dense surface reconstruction from planar samples. In ...
