Nuclear dynamics in quantum clusters¤

We address recent developments in the exploration of quantum nuclear dynamics in large, Ðnite, low-temperature systems, focusing on BoseÈEinstein condensates (T ^ 100 nK), optical molasses (T ^ 10È100 lK) and aromatic clusters (T \ 0.4 K). The expansion of optical molasses bears a close analogy molecule ÉHe n to the nuclear dynamics of Coulomb explosion of multicharged clusters. Spectroscopy of electronicÈvibrational excitations of clusters manifests large nuclear quantum e†ects, nonrigidity, large scale anthracene ÉHe n conÐnement and permutational symmetry e†ects. Perspectives for the novel research area of nuclear dynamics of ultracold Ðnite systems are advanced.
