چکیده

We have observed Markarian 421 during an extraordinarily high state in January and March 2001 with the CANGAROO-II imaging Cherenkov telescope. From 14 hours observations at a large zenith angle of ∼70◦, a signal of 298± 52 gamma-ray–like events was detected at E > 10 TeV with 5.7 σ significance. Under the assumption of power-law spectrum, we derived a steep energy spectrum of photon index ∼4.0, and supports the evidence for a cutoff in the spectrum of Markarian 421. However, the 4σ excess at energies greater than 20 TeV in our data favors a cutoff energy of ∼8 TeV, at the upper end of the range previously reported from measurements at TeV energies.

Detection of Sub-TeV gamma-rays from the Galactic Center with the CANGAROO-II telescope

The Galactic Center has been observed with the CANGAROO–II imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope in 2001 and 2002. We detected a statistically significant excess at energies greater than 250GeV. This is the first detection of sub-TeV gamma rays from the Galactic Center region. The signal direction is consistent with the Galactic Center, which includes the massive black hole Sgr A* and superno...

The observation of TeV-gamma rays of π 0 origin from the supernova remnant RX J1713.7-3946 has revealed the first specific site where protons are accelerated to energies typical of the main component of the cosmic rays. In this letter we calculate the high-energy neutrino flux associated with this source to be at least 40 muon-type neutrinos per kilometer-squared per year. We perform the same c...

DETECTION OF GAMMA RAYS OF UP TO 50 TeV FROM THE CRAB NEBULA

Gamma rays with energies greater than 7 TeV from the Crab pulsar/nebula have been observed at large zenith angles, using the Imaging Atmospheric Technique from Woomera, South Australia. CANGAROO data taken in 1992, 1993 and 1995 indicate that the energy spectrum extends up to at least 50 TeV, without a change of the index of the power law spectrum. The observed di erential spectrum is (2:01 0:3...

Very Strong TeV Emission as Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and following afterglows are considered to be produced by dissipation of kinetic energy of a relativistic fireball and radiation process is widely believed as synchrotron radiation or inverse Compton scattering of electrons. We argue that the transfer of kinetic energy of ejecta into electrons may be inefficient process and hence the total energy released by a GRB event ...

ICRC 2001 Likelihood Analysis of sub-TeV Gamma-rays from RXJ1713-39 with CANGAROO-II

We have detected gamma-rays from RXJ1713−39 in the energy range between 400 GeV and 5 TeV using a new kind of analysis: likelihood analysis. The statistical significance of the measurement is greater than 8 σ. The details of this analysis method are presented.
