چکیده

Most pathogenic diseases remain epidemic and endemic in the world, causing thousands of deaths annually in less developed countries. Yet, their dynamics are still not fully understood. In this paper, we carry out a thorough stability and sensitivity analysis of an iSIR which incorporates an infection term that explicitly includes a minimum infection dose (MID), and determine an invariant domain. We discover that if the MID (denoted c) is less than the bacterial carrying capacity K, we may have two steady states: the endemic or epidemic steady state, and the disease-free and bacteria-free steady state. The latter is unstable and the former is globally stable under a certain condition. On the other hand, if c ≥ K, then up to four steady states may exist: an unstable endemic steady state, a locally stable endemic steady state, a conditionally globally stable disease-free steady state, and an unstable disease-free and bacteria-free steady state. We find that to control the period and intensity of the outbreaks, it might be better to focus on the bacterial carrying capacity rather than on the shedding rates.

THE ROLE OF TREATMENT ON CONTROLLING CHANCROID PREVALENCE

Chancroid is a highly infectious and curable sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Haemophilus Ducreyl (also known as H. Ducreyl). A deterministic mathematical model for investigating the role of treatment on controlling chancroid epidemic is formulated and rigorously analyzed. A threshold quantity known as the productive number, which measures the number of secondary infections ...

Seasonal Forcing and Exponential Threshold Incidence in Cholera Dynamics

We propose a seasonal forcing iSIR (indirectly transmitted SIR) model with a modified incidence function, due to the fact that the seasonal fluctuations can be the main culprit for cholera outbreaks. For this nonautonomous system, we provide a sufficient condition for the persistence and the existence of a periodic solution. Furthermore, we provide a sufficient condition for the global stabilit...

ON THE STABILITY AND THRESHOLD ANALYSIS OF AN EPIDEMIC MODEL

We consider a mathematical model of epidemic spread  in which the  population  is partitioned  into five compartments of susceptible S(t), Infected I(t), Removed R(t), Prevented U(t) and the Controlled W(t). We assume each of the compartments comprises of cohorts of individuals which are  identical with respect to the disease status. We derive five systems of equations to represent each of the ...

Dynamics of indirectly transmitted infectious diseases with immunological threshold.

There are numerous examples of human pathogens which persist in environmental reservoirs while infectious outbreaks remain rare. In this manuscript, we consider the dynamics of infectious diseases for which the primary mode of transmission is indirect and mediated by contact with a contaminated reservoir. We evaluate the realistic scenario in which the number of ingested pathogens must be above...

A mathematical model for treatment of bovine brucellosis in cattle population

Brucellosis is an infectious bacterial zoonosis of public health and economic significance. In this paper, a mathematical model describing the propagation of bovine brucellosis within cattle population is formulated. Model analysis is carried out to obtain and establish the stability of the equilibrium points. A threshold parameter referred to as the basic reproduction number $mathcal{R}_{0}$ i...
