چکیده

Estimation of consistent initial conditions is very crucial for the successful solution of differential–algebraic equation (DAE) systems that arise in many fields of science and engineering. In this paper, an efficient perturbation approach for initialization of DAE systems of index-1 is proposed and implemented for DAE models governing batteries. In addition, different existing solvers are compared for consistent initialization of DAE systems. The proposed approach does not necessarily

Extending explicit and linearly implicit ODE solvers for index-1 DAEs

Nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAE) are typically solved using implicit stiff solvers based on backward difference formula or RADAU formula, requiring a Newton-Raphson approach for the nonlinear equations or using Rosenbrock methods specifically designed for DAEs. Consistent initial conditions are essential for determining numeric solutions for systems of DAEs. Very few systems of ...

Chebyshev finite difference method for solving a mathematical model arising in wastewater treatment plants

The Chebyshev finite difference method is applied to solve a system of two coupled nonlinear Lane-Emden differential equations arising in mathematical modelling of the excess sludge production from wastewater treatment plants. This method is based on a combination of the useful properties of Chebyshev polynomials approximation and finite difference method. The approach consists of reducing the ...

An initialization subroutine for DAEs solvers: DAEIS

Numerical difficulty arises when DAEs are solved with inconsistent initial values of dependent variables. It can cause the solution failures of many popular DAEs solvers. An initialization subroutine, DAEIS (Differential Algebraic Equations Initialization Subroutine), has been developed to handle this issue. In DAEIS, consistent initial values of dependent variables for index-1 DAEs are obtaine...

Consistent Initial Conditions for Unstructured Higher Index DAEs: A Computational Study

Differential algebraic equations (DAEs) are implicit systems of ordinary differential equations, F (x′, x, t) = 0, for which the Jacobian Fx′ is always singular. DAEs arise in many applications. Significant progress has been made in developing numerical methods for solving DAEs. Determination of consistent initial conditions remains a difficult problem especially for large higher index DAEs. Th...

Substitute Equations for Index Reduction and Discontinuity Handling

Several techniques exist for index reduction and consistent initialization of higher index DAEs. Many such techniques change the original set of equations by differentiation, substitution, and/or introduction of new variables. This paper introduces substitute equations as a new language element. By means of a substitute equation, the value of a continuous variable or its time derivative can be ...
