چکیده

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) domain is concerned with controlling and monitoring air traffic from a source airport to a destination airport. A number of cooperating agents distributed throughout the ATC environment ensure that a safe, orderly and expenditious movement of traffic in airspace is achieved. Starting with a general discussion on the mechanics of ATC especially its operation, the paper develops an ATC model. The model addresses two issues: 1. A model of an agent which will allow interagent cooperation. 2. A model of an operational environment which requires interagent cooperation. The paper terminates with a simulation of an ATC system, known as a Conflict Management System (CMS), to be implemented. CMS depicts interagent cooperation among air traffic controller (ATCO) agents, and between ATCO agents and aircraft agents during flight execution.

Multi-Agent Technology for Air Traffic Control and Incident Management in Airport Airspace

The paper presents a model, multi-agent architecture, implementation approach and software prototype of a multi-agent system for autonomous air traffic control within airport airspace capable of automatic detection of potential violations of safety policies by individual aircraft and consequent incident management. It features a model facilitating practical implementation of the concepts of ope...

The Role of the Air Traffic Controller in Future Air Traffic Management: An Empirical Study of Active Control versus Passive Monitoring

Proposals for air traffic management such as Free Flight call for a transfer of responsibility for separation between aircraft from air traffic controllers (ATCos) to pilots. Under many proposals, the role of the ATCo will change from one of active control to passive monitoring. The present study directly compared these types of control with respect to ATCo mental workload, conflict detection, ...

Optimizing B-splines using Genetic Algorithms Applied to Air-traffic Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution has always been a sensitive matter in air-traffic management. Current European projects aim partial or total automation of air traffic control to deal with the constant growth of air traffic. Technological advances on flight management system allows us to consider an automatic conflict resolution using continuous trajectories. In this paper, we present a new methodology that...

Performance Metrics for Tactical Aircraft to Aircraft Conflicts

An air traffic control system’s main function is to separate aircraft. The computer supporting the system assists the air traffic controllers by generating a conflict alert whenever it predicts that two aircraft are about to get too close to each other. The performance of the conflict alert function is a key element to the overall functioning of the air traffic control system. A set of metrics ...

A New Prioritization Method for Conflict Detection and Resolution in Air Traffic Management

The current air traffic management systems are not able to manage the enormous capacities of air traffic perfectly and have not sufficient capability to service different types of flights. Free flight is a new concept presented potentially to solve problems in the current air traffic management system. The free flight concept changes the current centralized and command-control airspace system (...
