Testing Dark Energy and Cardassian Expansion for Causality

چکیده
Causality principle is a powerful criterion that allows us to discriminate between what is possible or not. In this paper we study the transition from decelerated to accelerated expansion in the context of Cardassian and dark energy models. We distinguish two important events during the transition. The first one is the end of the matter-dominated phase, which occurs at some time teq. The second one is the actual crossover from deceleration to acceleration, which occurs at some tT . Causality requires tT ≥ teq. We demonstrate that dark energy models, with constant w, and Cardassian expansion, are compatible with causality only if (ΩM − q̄) ≤ 1/2. However, observational data indicate that the most probable option is (ΩM − q̄) > 1/2. Consequently, the transition from deceleration to acceleration in dark energy and Cardassian models occurs before the matter-dominated epoch comes to an end, i.e., teq > tT . Which contradicts causality principle.

The CMB Spectrum in Cardassian Models
The dark energy in the Universe is described in the context of modified Friedmann equations as a fluid parameterized by the density of dark matter and undergoing an adiabatic expansion. This formulation is applied to the Cardassian model. Choosing then parameters consistent with the supernova observations, it gives a background expansion in which the cosmic temperature fluctuations are calculat...
متن کاملCardassian Expansion: Dark Energy Density from Modified Friedmann Equations
The Cardassian universe is a proposed modification to the Friedmann equation in which the universe is flat, matter dominated, and accelerating. In the ordinary Friedmann equation, the right hand side is a linear function of the energy density, H ∼ ρ. Here, instead, the right hand side of the Friedmann equation is a different function of the energy density, H ∼ g(ρ). This function returns to ord...
متن کاملFuture Type Ia Supernova Data as Tests of Dark Energy from Modified Friedmann Equations
In the Cardassian model, dark energy density arises from modifications to the Friedmann equation, which becomes H = g(ρM), where g(ρM) is a new function of the energy density. The universe is flat, matter dominated, and accelerating. The distance redshift relation predictions of generalized Cardassian models can be very different from generic quintessence models, and can be differentiated with ...
متن کاملObservational Constraints on Cardassian Expansion
In this work, we have studied the observational constraints on the Cardassian Model for the dark energy. We have compared the model with existing Supernova data. The dependence of the location of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) peaks on the parameters of the model have also been studied. We find, in particular that observational data arising from Archeops for the location of th...
متن کاملConstraints on Cardassian Expansion from Distant type Ia Supernovae
The distant type Ia supernovae data compiled by Perlmutter et al. (1999) are used to analyze the Cardassian expansion scenario, which was recently proposed by Freese and Lewis (2002) as an alternative to a cosmological constant (or more generally a dark energy component) in explaining the currently accelerating universe. We show that the allowed intervals for n and zeq, the two parameters of th...
