چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Variations in anterolateral thigh (ALT) arterial anatomy are well documented. Ethnicity is a known risk factor for vascular variation in several organ systems, but its impact on ALT anatomy has not been studied. Anecdotally, we observed frequent ALT arterial variation in African American (AA) patients. We thus hypothesized that AA patients have higher rates of anomalous branching.

Evaluation of inter-rater reliability of subjective and objective criteria for diagnosis of lymphedema in upper and lower limbs

Background: The diagnosis of lymphedema can be obtained objectively by measurement methods, and also by subjective methods, based on the patient’s complaint. Objective: To evaluate inter-rater reliability of objective and subjective criteria used for diagnosis of lymphedema and to propose a lymphedema cut-off for differences in volume between affected and control limbs. Methods: We studied 84 p...

The determination of correlation between total length of upper limb and length of upper limb segments in students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Introduction & Objective Estimating limb length based on the remaining parts of each limb is one of the most important challenges among anatomists and forensic specialists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between upper limb length and length of upper limb segments to derive a regression formula for estimating upper limb length. Methods Four parameter of upper limb length,...

Correlation between bioelectrical spectroscopy and perometry in assessment of upper extremity swelling.

Lymphedema is a common side effect of breast cancer treatment and is associated with increased upper extremity volume, functional impairment, and pain. While there is no cure for lymphedema, physical therapy treatment can often alleviate symptoms. To measure the efficacy of treatment, accurate assessment of the limbs is important. Current methods of assessment are complex (water displacement), ...

Abstract: Prefabricated Lympho-Venous Shunt Increases the Efficacy of Lymph Node Transfer for Lymphedema

CONCLUSION: Our findings show that there is considerable measurement error between perometry and perimetry when measuring the absolute or relative volumes of the arms and that their results should be compared with caution. Furthermore, we observed an increasingly relevant measurement error as outcomes are derived from arm volumes originally measured in error. Our findings suggest that the lymph...

Combined opto-electronic perometry and bioimpedance to measure objectively the effectiveness of a new treatment intervention for chronic secondary leg lymphedema.

Secondary lymphedema of the legs is a common sequela of patients treated for cancer of the reproductive, gastrointestinal, urinary systems and melanoma. From a clinical and research perspective it is of utmost importance to use techniques that objectively quantify leg volume and fluid composition as an indicator of lymphedema severity and response to treatment. Two techniques often used in both...
