Composition of South African Final Molasses
نویسنده
چکیده
A survey has been carried out on the composition of final molasses from South African sugar factories. Regional and seasonal trends in various parameters have been noted, and the degree of exhaustion of the molasses has been commented upon. Included in the survey are data on the nonsucrose constituents of molasses, and the inorganic ash components. Comparisons are made with a similar survey conducted in 195511956.

UV/H2O2/TiO2/Zeolite Hybrid System for Treatment of Molasses Wastewater
Wastewater from molasses processing contains a large amount of coloured substances that give a recalcitrant dark brown colour and high organic load to the effluent. Photocatalytic decolourization of molasses wastewater was performed using titanium dioxide catalyst coated on the surface of South African natural zeolite using the solid-solid dispersion method. Addition of hydrogen peroxide as...
متن کاملThe effect of high broiler litter diets as survival ration on the health of sheep.
The use of broiler litter as an emergency feed during droughts and other periods of feed shortages was evaluated in terms of its effect on the health of sheep. Pure broiler litter (i.e. excreta plus wood shavings), and litter mixed with 7.5 or 15% molasses were fed for 83 days to 2-year-old wethers. The addition of molasses to the litter caused a significant increase (p < 0.01) in feed intake a...
متن کاملSome Downstream Effects Resulting from Diffusion Compared with Milling as Published by the South African Sugar Industry
The South African sugar industry can be regarded as mainly a diffusion industry with 76% of all cane now handled by diffusers. With the conversion from milling to diffusion, concerns were expressed that higher temperatures, imbibition levels and improved extraction in itselfwould result in various processing difficulties. Among these were expected clarification problems associated with the extr...
متن کاملExhaustion of South African Final Molasses
A relationship between true purity, reducing sugar and ash was developed for South African molasses. This relationship was established by equilibrating molasses with sucrose at 40°C and a viscosity of approximately 1 000 poises. The formula proposed is p = 51,02 10,89 ' / a in which p = true purity r = reducing sugars a = sulphated ash Introduction Many investigations have been carried out atte...
متن کاملThe effect of sugar cane molasses on the immune and male reproductive systems using in vitro and in vivo methods
Objective(s): Sugar cane molasses is a commonly used ingredient in several food products. Contrasting reports suggest that molasses may have potential adverse or beneficial effects on human health. However, little evidence exists that examines the effects of molasses on the different physiological systems. This study investigated the effects of sugar cane molasses on various physiological syste...
