چکیده
The governing equations are Maxwell’s. The source of the current is either j = ey δ(z − z0)δ(x)f(t) or eφ δ(z − z0)δ(r − r0)f(t) (straight wire or loop of current, f(t) is a pulse). The conductivity σ(z) and permittivity ε(z) are unknown in the medium (z > 0) and are known in the air (z < 0). The source is in the air: z0 < 0. The μ is a known constant. The data are the values of E(x, y, z, t) and H(x, y, z, t) for all t > 0, all x, y ∈ R on the surface z = 0. For t < 0 the system is at rest: the electromagnetic fields vanish. Given the data, an exact inversion procedure is described to find σ(z) and ε(z).

Full-Wave Modelling of Ground-Penetrating Radars: Antenna Mutual Coupling Phenomena and Sub-Surface Scattering Processes
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology finds applications in many areas such as geophysical prospecting, archaeology, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and defence applications as a non-invasive sensing tool [3], [6], [18]. One key component in any GPR system is the receiver/transmitter antenna. Desirable features for GPR antennas include efficient radiation of ultra-wideband pul...

Many types of radar systems have been applied to the study of a wide range of volcanic features. Fields of application commonly include volcano deformation by interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), mainly satellite-based (e.g. Froger et al., 2007) but also ground-based like LISA (Casagli et al., 2009), digital elevation model generation using satellite or airborne InSAR measurements,...
متن کاملCompressive sensing for subsurface imaging using ground penetrating radar
The theory of compressive sensing (CS) enables the reconstruction of sparse signals from a small set of non-adaptive linear measurements by solving a convex ‘1 minimization problem. This paper presents a novel data acquisition system for wideband synthetic aperture imaging based on CS by exploiting sparseness of pointlike targets in the image space. Instead of measuring sensor returns by sampli...
متن کاملApplication of quantum technology in radars
In this paper, the use of quantum technology in the radar system and the advantages of these radars as compared to classical radars have been analyzed. In the beginning, briefly, we present the basic structure of the theory of quantum electrodynamics, and then the role of photon in this theory and photon interactions is presented. In the next step, the most general form of the quantum radar cr...
متن کاملFrequency responses of ground-penetrating radars operating over highly lossy grounds
The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to investigate the effects of highly lossy grounds and the frequency-band selection on ground-penetrating-radar (GPR) signals. The ground is modeled as a heterogeneous half space with arbitrary background permittivity and conductivity. The heterogeneities encompass both embedded scatterers and surface holes, which model the surface roughne...
