چکیده

Spasticity, contracture and muscle weakness are commonly seen in children with cerebral palsy. Although it is commonly accepted that spasticity is characterized with velocitydependent increase in muscle tone, it is not clear whether the commonly measured “catch” is dependent on the movement velocity. Furthermore, convenient and quantitative device/measurement in clinical setting for evaluating children with CP is essential and there is a lack of quantitative and convenient method and device to evaluate spasticity, contracture and muscle weakness in a clinical setting. Hence the aim of this study was to evaluate spasticity, contracture and muscle weakness quantitatively using our custom a Manual Spasticity Evaluator (MSE) and Handheld Tendon Tapper (HTT).

Quantitative evaluations of ankle spasticity and stiffness in neurological disorders using manual spasticity evaluator.

Spasticity and contracture are major sources of disability in people with neurological impairments that have been evaluated using various instruments: the Modified Ashworth Scale, tendon reflex scale, pendulum test, mechanical perturbations, and passive joint range of motion (ROM). These measures generally are either convenient to use in clinics but not quantitative or they are quantitative but...

Use of a hand-held dynamometer and a Kin-Com dynamometer for evaluating spastic hypertonia in children: a reliability study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Studies in subjects with spastic hypertonia indicate that the higher resistance to stretch in the spastic muscles is not only due to hyperactive stretch reflexes but also to changes in the muscle-tendon unit (nonreflex components). The aim of this study was to compare the test-retest reliability of two methods: hand-held dynamometry and isokinetic dynamometry for the eval...

The Effect of Adding Homeopathic Treatment to Rehabilitation on Abnormal Reflexes of Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Objectives: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a static encephalopathy with abnormal reflexes that cause motor developmental delay. In addition to conventional methods, complementary medicine like homeopathy has been used in treatment of neuro-developmental disorders. This study has been done to determine the effect of adding homeopathic treatment to rehabilitation on abnormal reflexes of children with spa...
