چکیده

We present deep XMM-Newton EPIC spectroscopic and timing X-ray observations of the nearby solitary radio millisecond pulsar, PSR J0030+0451. Its emission spectrum in the 0.1–10 keV range is found to be remarkably similar to that of the nearest and best studied millisecond pulsar, PSR J0437–4715, being well described by a predominantly thermal two-temperature model plus a faint hard tail evident above ∼2 keV. The pulsed emission in the 0.3–2 keV band is characterized by two broad pulses with pulsed fraction ∼60-70%, consistent with a mostly thermal origin of the X-rays only if the surface polar cap radiation is from a light-element atmosphere. Modeling of the thermal pulses permits us to place constraints on the neutron star radius of R > 10.7 (95% confidence) and R > 10.4 km (at 99.9% confidence) for M = 1.4 M⊙. Subject headings: pulsars: general — pulsars: individual (PSR J0030+0451) — stars: neutron — X-rays: stars — relativity

Searches for diffuse X - ray emission around millisecond pulsars : An X - ray nebula associated with PSR J 2124 − 3358

We report on diffuse X-ray emission associated with the nearby solitary millisecond pulsar PSR J2124−3358 detected with XMM-Newton and Chandra. The emission extends from the pulsar to the northwest by ∼ 0.5 arcmin. The spectrum of the nebular emission can be modeled with a power-law of photon index 2.2 ± 0.4, in line with the emission originating from accelerated particles in the post shock flo...

New Pulsars from Arecibo Drift Scan Search

We report the discovery of 3 pulsars, PSR J0030+0451, PSR J0711+09, and PSR J1313+09 that were found in a three dimensional (DM, period, position) search at 430 MHz using the 305m Arecibo telescope. PSR J0030+0451 is a nearby 4.8-millisecond solitary pulsar. Spin and astrometric parameters are presented for the three new pulsars. We have measured significant polarization in the millisecond puls...

X-ray Observations of Neutron Stars and Pulsars: First Results from XMM-Newton

Abstract. The X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission XMMNewton is ESA’s largest observatory so far; it is dedicated to explore the Universe in the 0.2 − 15 keV X-ray band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Because of its large collecting area very faint sources not accessible before can be observed and it is therefore the long awaited instrument to study young pulsars and neutron stars in supernova remnants,...

X-rays from the Nearby Solitary Millisecond Pulsar Psr J0030+0451 – the Final Rosat Observations

We report on X-ray observations of the solitary 4.8 ms pulsar PSR J0030+0451. The pulsar was one of the last targets observed in DEC-98 by the ROSAT PSPC. X-ray pulses are detected on a 4.5σ level and make the source the 11th millisecond pulsar detected in the X-ray domain. The pulsed fraction is found to be 69± 18%. The X-ray pulse profile is characterized by two narrow peaks which match the g...

XMM - Newton spectral and timing observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR J 0218 + 4232

We present XMM-Newton MOS imaging and PN timing data of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232. We confirm the previously detected pulsations of PSR J0218+4232 and we show that the folded lightcurve is dependent on energy. We present the broad band (0.2-10.0 keV) spectrum of this millisecond pulsar, as well as the spectra of: the pulsed emission, the individual pulses, the interpulse and the non...
