Azathioprine-induced pure red-cell aplasia.

چکیده
Long-term administration of azathioprine is widely used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation and in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Bone marrow toxicity is a well-known side-effect of azathioprine. Macrocytosis, with or without megaloblastic erythropoiesis in the bone marrow, and (mild) leukopenia are frequently seen [1-4]. Less common effects are anaemia, thrombocytopenia and pancytopenia [5,6]. Pure red-cell aplasia is a rare complication of azathioprine, which was first reported in two patients by McGrath et al. in 1975 [1]. So far, no more than 10 cases have been reported in the literature [1,2,7-12]. We describe this disorder in a renal transplant patient. Discontinuation of the drug resulted in full recovery.

Pure red cell aplasia associated with autoimmune hepatitis successfully treated with cyclosporine A
A 47-year-old female with a 17-year history of autoimmune hepatitis had been treated with prednisolone, azathioprine, and ursodeoxycholic acid. Although her alanine aminotransferase level occasionally showed mild abnormality, the prednisolone dose could not be increased because she had developed cataract during the course of her illness. In May 2012, she developed severe normochromic normocytic...
متن کاملLinezolid Induced Twice Pure Red Cell Aplasia in a Patient with Central Nervous System Infection after Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation
Linezolid (LZD), severed as the first oxazolidinone antibiotic, was active against multidrug-resistant gram-positive strains. LZD can induce thrombocytopenia, anemia and leukocytopenia. Currently, reports on pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) cases induced by LZD are relatively rare [4-7]. In this paper, we reported a patient with PRCA twice induced by LZD. A 37-year-old man was diagnosed with myelody...

متن کاملPure red cell hypoplasia secondary to isoniazid.
We describe a 77 year old man who developed pure red cell aplasia while receiving antituberculous therapy including isoniazid. Prompt recovery occurred following cessation of isoniazid. In this paper we also review previously described case reports of isoniazid-induced pure red cell aplasia.
متن کاملPure Red Cell Aplasia Caused by Acute Hepatitis A
Pure red cell aplasia is characterized as a normocytic anemia associated with reticulocytopenia and the absence of erythroblasts in the bone marrow. Pure red cell aplasia can be induced by various causes such as thymoma, connective tissue disease, viral infection, lymphoma, and adverse drug reactions. There have been only a few reports of pure red cell aplasia associated with acute viral hepati...
