The Multicast element in SATIN: from services to implementation

The advantages of satellites in multicast and broadcast service provision has attracted a lot of interest within the satellite community and motivated a re-examination of the role of mobile satellite systems with regard to terrestrial networks. This paper reports on the approach taken by the IST project SATIN towards the definition of a suitable architecture for the delivery of multicast/broadcast (MC/BC) services, making use of SUMTS packet mode.
