چکیده

Sequential break-dating procedures, proposed in Banerjee and Urga (1995a,b), allow breaks to be determined by the data, avoiding a priori imposition. In this paper, the methods are brieey introduced and then utilised to analyse UK foreign trade within the context of the LBS model. The break-dates for both imports and exports equations are robust to a range of sensitivity analyses, are found at economically interpretable periods and link-up well with previous research on this subject. We are very grateful to the ESRC for funding this project under various grants held at the Institute of Economics and Statistics, Oxford and the Center for Economic Forecasting (London Business School). The authors also wish to thank Steven Hall for comments and helpful suggestions and Niels Buhl for research assistance. The usual disclaimer applies.

Which OIC countries are catching up? Time Series Evidences with Multiple Structural Breaks

Abstract In this paper, income per capita convergence hypothesis is tested in selected OIC countries. For this purpose, we use the time series model and univariate KPSS stationary test with multiple structural breaks (Carrion-i-Silvestre et al. (2005)) over the period 1950-2008. The results show that most OIC countries could not catch up toward USA. Although because of some positive term of tra...

Income Convergence toward USA: New Evidences for Latin and South American Countries

Abstract In this paper we test two versions of convergence hypothesis namely deterministic or conditional convergence and stochastic or catching up hypothesis using Carrion-i-Silvestre et al. (2005) stationary test. The results show Latin and South American countries (LSA) catching up process toward the USA failed in 1980s and somewhat in 1990s. But in 2000s most of them could lie in converge...

Productivity and Trade Orientation in UK Manufacturing

Productivity and Trade Orientation in UK Manufacturing Within a structural model we explicitly allow for the trade orientation of companies to estimate productivity dynamics within 4-digit UK manufacturing industries. We use the FAME data on UK companies over the period 1994-2003. Following Ackerberg et al. (2005) we adjust the algorithm in Olley and Pakes (1996) by augmenting investment and ex...
