[NM-242] Avoiding Anaphylaxis: Pediatric Cutaneous Mastocytosis and Anesthetic Challenges

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Background: Pediatric mastocytosis includes a rare spectrum of diseases characterized by abnormal mast cell infiltration in one or more organs. The cutaneous form (urticaria pigmentosa) is the most frequent pediatric clinical variant.1 Various stimuli may cause mast cell degranulation leading to mediator release. However, there have only been few reports of serious anesthesia-related complications in pediatric populations.2 Dexmedetomidine is a potential mast cell stabilizer that has been shown to block histamine-induced bronchoconstriction.3

Pediatric mastocytosis: routine anesthetic management for a complex disease.

BACKGROUND Pediatric mastocytosis consists of a spectrum of clinical variants characterized by increased numbers of resident mast cells in various organ systems. Mast cells are instrumental in mediating anaphylaxis and patients with mastocytosis are at risk to develop provoked and unprovoked episodes of anaphylaxis. METHODS We examined perianesthetic records of patients with pediatric mastocy...

The role of serum tryptase in the diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric mastocytosis: a single-center experience

INTRODUCTION In children, cutaneous mastocytosis (CM) is considered to be a benign disease associated with mast cell mediator-related symptoms. However, systemic mastocytosis (SM) and anaphylaxis may also occur. Since the basal serum tryptase (bsT) level reflects mast cell burden, its determination is recommended in the diagnosis and follow-up. AIM To compare clinical presentation and the cou...

Management of Anesthesia in Adult and Pediatric Mastocytosis: A Study of the Spanish Network on Mastocytosis (REMA) Based on 726 Anesthetic Procedures.

BACKGROUND The role of anesthesia as an elicitor of mast cell (MC) mediator release symptoms in mastocytosis is poorly investigated. OBJECTIVE To determine the frequency and type of MC mediator release symptoms during anesthetic procedures in mastocytosis patients. METHODS Medical records were reviewed regarding the anesthetic techniques for 501 mastocytosis patients (459 adults and 42 chil...

Mastocytosis and allergic diseases.

Mastocytosis is a clonal disorder characterized by proliferation and accumulation of mast cells in various tissues, mainly skin and bone marrow. It can cause a wide variety of clinical manifestations-other than urticaria pigmentosa-that can lead to inappropriate release of mediators by mast cells. The most severe manifestation is anaphylaxis. The triggers of anaphylaxis in adults with mastocyto...

Cutaneous mastocytosis: Two pediatric cases treated with topical pimecrolimus.

Cutaneous mastocytosis is characterized by increased numbers of skin mast cells that release mediators causing pruritus, urticaria, and flushing. Most pediatric mastocytosis patients exhibit the pattern of urticaria pigmentosa, which typically appears during the first two years of life and resolves spontaneously in late adolescence. However, while the disease is active, patients are frequently ...
