was confirmed pathologically. Our patient had no underlying predisposing factors for pulmonary hemorrhage apart from heart failure. We conclude that pulmonary hemorrhage is a rare but important complication of thrombolytic therapy. Underlying pulmonary disease, pulmonary artery catheterization, or pulmonary edema may predispose to this event. Pulmonary hemorrhage should be considered in the differential diagnosis of new infiltrates on chest radiography or falling hemoglobin levels in patients who received thrombolytic therapy. Awareness of the possibility of such a side effect, early recognition, and treatment may prevent significant morbidity and mortality.

Beryllium disease.

The increasing use of beryllium in a variety of industries continues to be a hazard. New cases are still being reported to the UK Beryllium Case Registry, now numbering 60 in the period 1945-1988. The majority of cases follow inhalation which results in acute beryllium disease (chemical pneumonitis) or more commonly chronic beryllium disease--a granulomatous pneumonitis. Granulomatous skin nodu...

Mimicking hypersensitivity pneumonitis as an uncommon initial presentation of chronic granulomatous disease in children

Dry cough, dyspenea and diffuse centrilobular nodules in both lungs of radiologic findings similar to hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) are rare initial presentation in chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). CGD is remarkable for increased susceptibility to bacterial and fungal infections as well as high sensitivity to inciting antigens such as Aspergillus species due to dysregulated inflammation...

Elemental analysis of occupational granulomatous lung disease by electron probe microanalyzer with wavelength dispersive spectrometer: Two case reports

The parenchymal lung diseases caused by metal inhalation include interstitial fibrosis, giant cell interstitial pneumonitis, chemical pneumonitis, and granulomatous disease, among others. We reported two cases of granulomatous lung disease with occupational exposure to metal dusts other than beryllium. They had worked in the battery manufacturing industry for 7 years and in an aluminum-processi...

Chronic granulomatous disease with pulmonary mass-like opacities secondary to hypersensitivity pneumonitis: a case report

INTRODUCTION Chronic granulomatous disease, one of the primary immunodeficiency syndromes, is characterized by failure of phagocytic capacity due to loss of reactive oxygen species production, as well as formation of granulomas in organs. Clinically, dysregulated inflammation by excessive cytokine production due to loss of reactive oxygen species production is suggested as a cause of noninfecti...

Granulomatous pneumonitis following exposure to the World Trade Center collapse.

We describe a 37-year-old male engineer who presented with cough and dyspnea 3 weeks after exposure to dust resulting from the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC). Radiographs of the chest and high-resolution CT demonstrated diffuse miliary nodularity. Lung biopsy specimens confirmed the presence of diffuse, noncaseating granulomatous nodules. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-disper...
