چکیده

The detection of active rock glacier and the quantification of the observed surface movement as well as its temporal change using the D-InSAR method are presented. An average deformation rate of -7.7 mm/35 days in the radar lineof-sight, in the summer of 1992, was estimated. Whereas, the corresponding geodetic measurement, vertical component of 3D flow velocity, was about –8.0 mm/35 days. Additionally, the spatial distribution of the rock glacier surface deformation derived from the D-InSAR data matches the photogrammetric and geodetic generated results to a very high degree.

High Temporal Resolution Permafrost Monitoring Using a Multiple Stack Insar Technique

The combined effect of climate change and accelerated economic development in Northern regions increases the threat of permafrost related surface deformation to buildings and transportation infrastructure. Satellite based InSAR provides a means for monitoring infrastructure that may be both remote and spatially extensive. However, permafrost poses challenges for InSAR monitoring due to the comp...

InSAR analysis of surface deformation over permafrost to estimate active layer thickness based on one-dimensional heat transfer model of soils

This paper presents a novel method to estimate active layer thickness (ALT) over permafrost based on InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) observation and the heat transfer model of soils. The time lags between the periodic feature of InSAR-observed surface deformation over permafrost and the meteorologically recorded temperatures are assumed to be the time intervals that the tempera...

Surface Deformation Monitoring in Permafrost Regions of Tibetan Plateau Based on Alos Palsar Data

The permafrost region of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is widely distributed with the freeze/thaw processes that cause surface structural damage. The differential interferometry synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) can detect large scale surface deformation with high precision, thus can be used to monitor the freeze/thaw processes of frozen soil area. In this paper, the surface deformation pattern of Qing...

Phase-Variance Thresholding and Uncertainty-based Weighted Averaging for Optimal Generation of InSAR-derived Mosaics of Permafrost Active Layer Thickness

I. MOTIVATION Large-scale thawing of arctic permafrost has a poorlyunderstood feedback effect on global climate through the release of CO2 and methane. Active Layer Thickness (ALT) is the maximum annual depth of thaw of surface soils and is designated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as an essential climate variable for monitoring the status of permafrost. Interferometric Syntheti...

Surveying the activity of permafrost landforms in the Valais Alps with InSAR

InSAR (space-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry) data has revealed to be useful for surveying landslides and permafrost creeping features (e.g. rock glaciers) as it permits a time-lapse quantification of topography changes at mm to cm resolution over alpine areas where dense vegetation is no longer present. The capability of InSAR for detecting both the location of moving zones and t...
