چکیده

Fading in wireless environments is a major obstacle to reliable communications. In order to mitigate the e ects of fading, channel coding is often employed. In this thesis, the performance and design of the channel coding technique, turbo codes, [1] is examined over Rayleigh fading channels. The thesis considers coherent BPSK signaling over both time-correlated and fully-interleaved Rayleigh, slow-fading channels with additive noise. The performance analysis begins with simulation results for typical turbo schemes in regions of low signal-to-noise. The e ects of block length, turbo decoder iterations, channel side information and channel correlation are examined. For regions of higher signal-to-noise, an average upper bound is developed and applied to a variety of fading conditions. The bound serves to illustrate the achievable performance of turbo codes and the e ects of block length and constituent encoder choice in the performance of turbo codes. Following from the performance analysis, this thesis outlines criteria for optimizing turbo codes for fading channels. In this analysis, design criteria are developed for the turbo interleaver on both fully-interleaved and correlated channels. For time-correlated channels, alternative interleaving schemes are proposed and studied through simulations. i

Design and Analysis of Turbo Codes on Rayleigh Fading Channels

The performance and design of turbo codes using coherent BPSK signaling on the Rayleigh fading channel is considered. In low signal-to-noise regions, performance analysis uses simulations of typical turbo coding systems. For higher signalto-noise regions beyond simulation capabilities, an average upper bound is used in which the average is over all possible interleaving schemes. Fully interleav...

Performance of Turbo Codes with Max-Log-MAP Decoding on Rayleigh Fading Channels

In this paper we investigate performance of turbo codes with Max-Log-MAP decoding on slow, flat Rayleigh fading channels. In order to simplify decoding algorithm implementation for a fading channel, the Gaussian distribution is applied to a channel metric. By means of computer simulations, we estimate BER of turbo codes on fully-interleaved and correlated channels with ideal CSI and without CSI...

Performance of noncoherent turbo detection on Rayleigh fading channels

In this paper, we are concerned with the performance of turbo codes on Rayleigh fading channels when noncoherent detection is employed. Performance of turbo codes with noncoherent detection on AWGN channels has been analyzed by Hall and Wilson. They compared the performance of turbo codes with the achievable information theoretic channel capacity for noncoherent detection on AWGN channels. We, ...

Digital Fountain Codes System Model and Performance over AWGN and Rayleigh Fading Channels

Digital fountain codes were originally packet-level forward erasure codes, but researchers have found that they are good at correcting bit errors. Modern LDPC and turbo codes have been shown to approach the Shannon limit. However, they are fixed rate codes and cannot well satisfy the Internet services that may encounter variable loss rates or asynchronous data access. For both packet and bit le...

Product Accumulate Codes on Fading Channels

Product accumulate codes are a special case of differentially coded low density parity check (LDPC) codes. This work analyzes the noncoherent performance of PA codes and general differentially-coded LDPC codes on flat Rayleigh fading channels using extrinsic information transfer charts, and proposes a convergence-constraint method to design good LDPC ensembles matched to differential coding.
