چکیده
Lung cancer is the most frequent cancer worldwide still. There were more than 1.8 million new cases (13% of total cancer incidence) and almost 1.6 million deaths (20% of total cancer mortality), as estimated in 2012 (WIL, D2014). Moreover, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in men in 87 countries and in women in 26 countries. Despite the advent of new diagnostic techniques, most lung cancers are detected at a late stage, and the 5-year survival rate of lung cancer is less than 15% in the US (Jemal et al., 2011). Once tumor cells have spread, the long-term prognosis is poor since no curative treatments are available. Thus, the development of biomarkers for effective early diagnosis of lung cancer is clearly necessary and he molecular biomarker is a new diagnostic technique for tumors (Hirsch et al., 2002). The Ras association domain family 1 A (RASSF1A) gene, located on chromosome 3 at band p21.3 (3p21.3) which is common heterozygous and homozygous deletions in different types of human tumors (Agathanggelou et al., 2003). It may serve as the effector that mediates the apoptotic effects of Ras by binding Ras in a guanosine triphosphate dependent manner (Hesson et al., 2007). What is more, RASSF1A is a frequent aberrant methylation

Association between HIC1 and RASSF1A Promoter Hypermethylation with MTHFD1 G1958A Polymorphism and Clinicopathological Features of Breast Cancer in Iranian Patients
Background: Ras-associated domain family 1 (RASSF1A) and hypermethylated in cancer (HIC1) genes are methylated more frequently in breast cancer. Genetic factors that alter the DNA methylation levels in normal and tumor tissues could therefore influence the susceptibility to this tumor phenotype. Objective: We determined the frequency of aberrant methylation of HIC1 and RASSF1A gene promoters an...
متن کاملThe relationship between RASSF1A promoter methylation and thyroid carcinoma
BACKGROUND DNA promoter methylation can suppresses gene expression and shows an important role in the biological functions of Ras association domain family 1A (RASSF1A). Many studies have performed to elucidate the role of RASSF1A promoter methylation in thyroid carcinoma, while the results were conflicting and heterogeneous. Here, we analyzed the data of databases to determine the relationship...
متن کاملAssociation of RASSF1A promoter methylation with lung cancer risk: a meta-analysis.
RASSF1A, regarded as a candidate tumor suppressor, is frequently silenced and inactivated by methylation of its promoter region in many human tumors. However, the association between RASSF1A promoter methylation and lung cancer risk remains unclear. To provide a more reliable estimate we conducted a meta-analysis of cohort studies to evaluate the potential role of RASSF1A promoter methylation i...
متن کاملAssociation between RASSF1A promoter methylation and renal cell cancer susceptibility: a meta-analysis.
Epigenetic inactivation of Ras-associated domain family 1A (RASSF1A) by hyper-methylation of its promoter region has been identified in various cancers. However, the role of RASSF1A in renal cancer has neither been thoroughly investigated nor reviewed. In this study, we reviewed and performed a meta-analysis of 13 published studies reporting correlations between methylation frequency of the RAS...
متن کاملAn Effective Concentration of 5-Aza-CdR to Induce Cell Death and Apoptosis in Human Pancreatic Cancer Cell Line through Reactivating RASSF1A and Up-Regulation of Bax Genes
Background: Promoter hyper-methylation of tumor suppressor genes is a common event that occurs in cancer. As methylation is a reversible modification, agents capable of reversing an abnormal methylation status should help to combat cancer. 5-Aza-CdR is a DNA methyl-transferase inhibitor. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of 5-Aza-CdR on the proliferation of human pancreatic cancer ...
متن کاملDiagnostic Capacity of RASSF1A Promoter Methylation as a Biomarker in Tissue, Brushing, and Blood Samples of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Methylation of the RAS association domain family protein 1A (RASSF1A) promoter has been observed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study investigated the correlation of RASSF1A promoter methylation with clinicopathological features and its utility as a diagnostic biomarker in NPC. A total of 926 patients with NPC and 495 non-tumor controls were analyzed in this study. RASSF1A promoter met...
