چکیده
We demonstrate that nonlinear decay of obliquely propagating Langmuir waves into another Langmuir and Alfvén waves is possible in a one-dimensional, highly relativistic, streaming, pair plasma. Based on this we present a new mechanism of pulsar radio emission that involves development and quasilinear relaxation of two stream instability, induced scattering of generated Langmuir waves by plasma particles and nonlinear conversion of Langmuir waves into Alfvén waves. It is shown that characteristic frequency of generated Alfvén waves is much less than the plasma frequency and consistent with the observational data on pulsar radio emission.

Broad band spectra of total and compact–scale radio emission from blazars, used in combination with kinematic information inferred from VLBI monitoring programs, can be applied successfully to better constrain the models of compact jets. We discuss here a " hands-on " approach for tying together the kinematic and spectral properties of radio emission from blazars.

The pulsar magnetosphere contains a strongly magnetized, relativistic plasma. We need to understand the physics of that plasma if we want to connect the data to the models. Our group in Socorro is mixing theory and observations in order to study the radio-loud pulsar plasma. In this paper we report on several aspects of our current work.

The physical conditions in the inner parsec of accretion disks believed to orbit the central black holes in active galactic nuclei can be probed by imaging the absorption (by ionized gas in the disk) of background emission from a radio counterjet. We report high angular resolution VLBI observations of the nearby (∼ 40 Mpc) radio galaxy NGC 4261 that confirm free-free absorption of radio emissio...

We report on X-ray observations of the young, energetic radio pulsar PSR J1105−6107 obtained using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. Our timing analysis of Proportional Counter Array data finds no evidence for X-ray pulsations from this source. We set a new upper limit on the pulsed X-ray flux from the pulsar of 18% in the 2-10 keV band, for a duty cycle of 0.5. Our improved upper limit supports...

Phase transitions in neutron stars due to formation of quark matter, kaon condensates, etc. are discussed with particular attention to the order of these transitions. Observational consequences of phase transitions in pulsar angular velocities are examined.
