The dynamics of capital accumulation in an overlapping generations model
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper studies capital accumulation in a slightly altered, explicit OLG model. The fundamental difference with the standard model lies in the initial conditions. If a portion of the initial allocation of the capital stock is not assigned to retirees, the framework allowing for a genuine accumulation of capital is provided. Dynamic aspects of the resulting model are analyzed, including dynamics of the quotas of capital stock, shares of total output, partial influences of parameters, the connection between the depreciation rate and capital’s contribution to production, and the relation of the latter to saddle-node bifurcations and the existence of real-valued equilibria. It is demonstrated that the model is able to describe the initial phase of accumulation. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. JEL classification: 020; 111

Administrative rationing and multiple equilibria
In this paper, we introduce non-interest profit/loss sharing (PLS) banks into a three-period overlapping generations model. Two types, (low- and high quality) investments are assumed and capital accumulation and level of output in the steady state is considered. Then, administrative rationing is introduced to the model. It is shown that the level of capital accumulation and output in equilibriu...

The ability of OLG models in analyzing and simulating the various fields of an economy, such as the investigation of endogenous growth policies, the development of intergenerational equity criteria and the reform of social security system, has caused these models to have a special position among economists in recent decades. However, difficulties in quantifying these models and analyzing their ...
متن کاملInvestigating the risk-taking behavior of the banking industry in the form of the general equilibrium model of overlapping generations (OLG)
In this paper, using a general equilibrium model of overlapping generations, the impact of different financing plans of the banking industry on their risk-taking motivation is investigated. In the non-competitive banking industry, financing is done by imposing taxes on the older generation or the bankchr('39')s internal resources (bank shares). As an effective policy, this action optimizes soci...
متن کاملCalibration of Fair Social Discount Rate in Utilizing Iran Oil Resources: An Islamic View Point
There is a long tradition in economics about the question of whether intergenerational discounting is fair or not. Ramsey (1928) was the first economist that criticized the discounting and mentioned that the just rate of discounting is zero. In this paper it was tried to calculate the just rate of discounting for Iran with respect to Islamic thoughts. According to Islam, intergenerational just...
متن کاملFinancial bubbles and capital accumulation in altruistic economies
We consider an overlapping generations model à la Diamond (1965) with two additional ingredients: altruism and an asset (or land) bringing non-stationary positive dividends (or fruits). We study the global dynamics of capital stocks and asset values as well as the interplay between them. Asset price bubbles are also investigated.
