چکیده

Fatigue evaluation is one of the most concerning issue in the design of mechanical parts subject to alternative forces. Fatigue life estimation is more complicated when loads act on different axes. This paper shows the stress analysis result of the steel shaft of a high-speed microgenerator rotor with 47750 rpm and 100kW which has been carried out with analytical stress formulation. The shaft is subjected to alternative torsional and bending stresses. First, Mean and alternative components of stresses have been calculated; then, using a MATLAB code, multiaxial fatigue life has been calculated with equivalent static yield criteria and Sines method. Having considered five potential critical points on the shaft, fatigue life calculation is done in each critical point. Using different criteria, it is possible to compare results and decide about the fatigue strength of different sections. Consideration of the mean and alternative stresses effects with different axes is the major attempt in this paper.

Critical Plane Fatigue Damage Analysis of a High Speed Microgenerator Shaft

Fatigue life estimation is one of the most important design considerations in mechanical parts which are subjected to alternating loads. When loads act along several axes, multiaxial fatigue approach should be used to obtain more accurate results than uniaxial fatigue method. In this paper stress analysis of the steel shaft of a high speed microgenerator rotor with 47750 rpm and 100kW is carrie...

Effects of Impeller Gap on Rotor Vibration in a High Speed Centrifugal Compressor: A Numerical and Experimental Analysis (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Centrifugal compressors produce high pressure ratio and rotate at speeds. So, a tiny unbalance can produce severe vibration. In this paper, effects of impeller gap on rotor vibration in a high speed centrifugal compressor is investigated. For this purpose, a numerical and experimental analysis are carried out. The moving reference frame method in FLUENT software is used for modeling of geometri...

Assessment of the Existing Models to Estimate the Fatigue Life under both Multiaxial in Phase and 90° Out of Phase Loading Conditions

Engineers have a range of methods to estimate the fatigue life under multiaxial conditions. Each of these predictive methods is generally subjected to restrictions, related to the inherent simplified assumptions. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the validity of commonly used multiaxial fatigue criteria for different multiaxial loading conditions. The best criterion is identified throu...

Failure analysis of a dynamometer drive shaft coupled to an engine

A typical dynamometer drive shaft was damaged during its working condition. This failure was repeated in four cases. In the present article, a failure analysis of a dynamometer drive shaft has been performed. To analyze the failure, the material investigation was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Additionally, the micro-structure of the failed coupling shaft was photogra...

Vibration Analysis of Rotating Shaft with Loose Disk

In this paper energy method is used to calculate rotor response with loose rotating disk on it. System equation of motion is obtained based on energy method and Lagrange equation. Mathematical modeling of loose disk in a rotor bearing system has resulted in terms similar to unbalance and gyroscopic effect in the system equation of motion. The effect of loose disk axial position and orthotropic ...
