چکیده

Early stages of aortic valve disease involve a subtle increase in leaflet stiffness which affects valve performance seen particularly in the opening and closing of the valve. In this study, a pulse duplicator which recreates physiologic flow waveforms was used to evaluate how changes in experimental conditions such as downstream resistance and flow rate affect the opening and closing patterns of valves with varying stiffness. A photographic technique which allowed for analysis of valve leaflet motion revealed various trends in relation to the flow, resistance, and stiffness of the valves. Increased flow and resistance lead towards shorter opening and closing times for the valves, while increased valve stiffness demonstrated an increase in the opening and closing times of the valves. Pressure drops across the aortic valves decreased during the closing cycles as the area decreased, and increased during the opening cycles as the area increased. These results indicate that hemodynamic factors influence the severity of the disease as demonstrated by the trends observed during the opening and closing cycles of the valve.

Successful Use of Two Thrombolytic Drugs in Prosthetic Mitral and Aortic Valve Thrombosis

Introduction: Prosthetic valve thrombosis is a rare and severe complication of valve replacement, most often encountered with a mechanical prosthesis. The significant morbidity and mortality associated with this condition warrant rapid diagnostic evaluation. Although surgery is the first-line therapy in symptomatic obstructive mechanical valve thrombosis, thrombolytic therapy has been used as a...

Doppler echocardiographic findings in tissue engineered aortic valve in a sheep model

Background: Heart valve diseases are considered a common disease in human and animals, and valve replacement is an option for treatment of valvular diseases. Objectives: In this study efficacy of a tissue engineered valve in thoracic aorta was evaluated with transthoracic echocardiography. Methods: This study was undertaken on 6 male sheep. Echocardiography was performed on all sheep 24 hours b...

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva

Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

Correlation Between Aortic Valve Sclerosis and Coronary Artery Disease: A Cross - Sectional Study

Introduction: Aortic valve sclerosisis considered as a manifestation of coronary atherosclerosis. Recent studies demonstrated an association between aortic valve sclerosis and obstructive coronary artery disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluatethe correlation betweenaortic valve sclerosis andobstructive coronary artery disease and the extent of coronary artery disease in patients ho...

Hemodynamic factors affecting the fate of valvular bioprosthesis.

Since their introduction in 1969, valvular bioprostheses (ie, glutaraldehyde-processed animal valves)1 have experienced a surprising increase in use as a result of progress in valve processing2 and growing patient desire for nonthrombogenic valve surgery.3 However, the persistent risk of structural valve deterioration, particularly in the young population, remains a major concern. The 2 main ca...
