The Evolution of Surface Parameters of Rotating Massive Stars

نویسنده

چکیده

We summarize the present status of the predictions of massive star models for the evolution of their surface properties. After discussing luminosity, temperature and chemical composition, we focus on the question whether massive stars may arrive at critical rotation during their evolution, either on the main sequence or in later stages. We find both cases to be possible and briefly discuss observable consequences.

Presupernova Evolution of Rotating Massive Stars II: Evolution of the Surface Properties

We investigate the evolution of the surface properties of models for rotating massive stars, i.e., their luminosities, effective temperatures, surface rotational velocities, and surface abundances of all isotopes, from the zero age main sequence to the supernova stage. Our results are based on the grid of stellar models by Heger et al. (2000), which covers solar metallicity stars in the initial...

Presupernova Evolution of Differentially Rotating Massive Stars Including Magnetic Fields

As a massive star evolves through multiple stages of nuclear burning on its way to becoming a supernova, a complex, differentially rotating structure is set up. Angular momentum is transported by a variety of classic instabilities, and also by magnetic torques from fields generated by the differential rotation. We present the first stellar evolution calculations to follow the evolution of rotat...

The evolution of rotating very massive stars with LMC composition⋆⋆⋆

Context. With growing evidence for the existence of very massive stars at subsolar metallicity, there is an increased need for corresponding stellar evolution models. Aims. We present a dense model grid with a tailored input chemical composition appropriate for the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Methods. We use a one-dimensional hydrodynamic stellar evolution code, which accounts for rotation, t...

Evolution and Nucleosynthesis of Very Massive Primordial Stars

We investigate the evolution, final fate, and nucleosynthetic yields of rotating and non-rotating very massive stars (VMS) of zero metallicity. First we address the issue of mass loss during hydrogen burning due to vibrational instabilities. We find that these objects are much more stable than what was found in previous studies of VMS of solar composition, and expect only negligible mass loss d...

Evidence of magnetic field decay in massive main-sequence stars

A significant fraction of massive main-sequence stars show strong, large-scale magnetic fields. The origin of these fields, their lifetimes, and their role in shaping the characteristics and evolution of massive stars are currently not well understood. We compile a catalogue of 389 massive main-sequence stars, 61 of which are magnetic, and derive their fundamental parameters and ages. The two s...
