چکیده
Although artificial stream restoration for improved fisheries habitat has been in vogue for at least a century, these endeavors have been insufficiently studied, and failures and successes inadequately demonstrated (Hall and Baker 1982, Platts and Nelson 1985, Platts and Rinne 1985, Beschta and Platts 1986, Elmore and Kauffman 1994). The lack of data has occurred at a time when native fish populations are declining and political pressures (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Pacific Northwest salmon issues) are increasing to provide additional amounts of money for restoring damaged streams and preventing the extirpation of species. Although the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), the US Forest Service (USFS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the Pacific Northwest States are spending millions of dollars annually for the improvement of salmonid habitat, this financial effort may not be providing the desired benefits. Credible scientific, economic, and social evaluation of the various types of stream alteration projects are critically needed to guide future decisions. However, major information gaps exist because the scientific community has not evaluated the ecological effects of various types of restoration projects. In addition, economic evaluations of the benefits resulting from project costs are of critical importance yet have received little attention (Reeves and Roelofs 1982). Although the research necessary to implement successful rehabilitation of riparian-stream environments is in its infancy, Everest et al. (1991) have alerted the fisheries profession and other natural resources managers that estimates of cost-effectiveness and total biological benefits are needed to help set priorities for future habitat alteration projects. Furthermore, it is possible that many previous “restoration” or “enhancement” projects have actually resulted in further degradation of the ecological functions of streams (e.g., Beschta et al. 1992, Kauffman et al. 1993).

Erosion Hazard Index Methodology (EHIM) for Streams Erodibility Assessment (Ardabil-Province)
An erosion hazard index methodology (EHIM) was developed for assessing stream erosion. The index of stream erosion is designed as a management tool. Assessing stream erosion involves consideration of a range of aspects of streams and a value judgment about a desirable state. The assessment of the erosion indicators of streams was based on a state-wide assessment of physical stream condition. A ...
متن کاملA Stream Cipher Based on Chaotic Permutations
In this paper we introduce a word-based stream cipher consisting of a chaotic part operating as a chaotic permutation and a linear part, both of which designed on a finite field. We will show that this system can operate in both synchronized and self-synchronized modes. More specifically, we show that in the self-synchronized mode the stream cipher has a receiver operating as an unknown input o...
متن کاملImplementation of a Lean Model for Carrying out Value Stream Mapping in a Manufacturing Industry
Value Stream Mapping technique involves flowcharting the steps, activities, material flows, communications, and other process elements that are involved with a process or transformation. In this respect, Value stream mapping helps an organization to identify the non-value-adding elements in a targeted process and brings a product or a group of products that use the same resources through the ma...
متن کاملPIM- and Stream Processor-based Processing for Radar Signal Applications
The growing gap in performance between processor and memory speeds has created a problem for data-intensive applications. Recent approaches for solving this problem are processor-inmemory (PIM) technology and stream processor technology. In this paper, we assess the performance of systems based on PIM and stream processors by implementing data-intensive applications. The implementation results ...
متن کاملA Comparison of Streams and Time Advance As Paradigms for Multimedia Systems
A common model for multimedia systems is the stream, an abstraction representing the flow of continuous time-dependent data such as audio samples and video frames. The primary feature of streams is the ability to compose processes by making stream connections between them. An alternative time-advance model is related to discrete-event simulations. Data is computed in presentation order, but in ...
متن کاملImproving Cyclone Efficiency by Recycle and Jet Impingement Streams
In this paper a new process is presented for improving efficiency of cyclone de-dusting systems. The cyclone is coupled with a specially designed cylindrical chamber which includes a rotating tube inside it with air impinging nuzzles, drilled on the peripheral surface of the tube. The nuzzles help in pushing and throwing the particles to the outer radius distances during downward flow of du...
