چکیده

FALL/1973 R. L. Swank R. S. Connell M. C. Webb Microemboli composed of aggregates of platelets and leukocytes can become a serious threat to the microvasculature. These aggregates develop in blood --stored for future transfusion, and during hemorrhagic and traumatic shock. During the use of the extracorporeal circulation, these causal factors combine together with the trauma of suction, pumping and oxygenation of the blood to produce wide-spread microembolism of the microvasculature resulting in pathophysiological alterations of the lungs, brain, kidneys, heart and liver, as well as other organs. This often leads to permanent damage and sometimes to death. It is important, therefore, that this phenomenon be examined, and that methods available to remove ~he microemboli or to prevent their access to the body be evaluated.

تاثیر فیلتراسیون پیش از ذخیره کردن بر فعال شدن پلاکت‌ها در فراورده‌های پلاکتی

Preparation conditions and platelet storage for transfusion may cause platelet activation, which contributes to decreased ability of stored platelet to function and survive in vivo after transfusion compared with that seen with freshly prepared platelets. Using flowcytometry, we investigated platelet membrane expression of CD62P, CD63 in platelet stored for up to 3 days under standard blood ba...

Leukocyte Rolling In Vivo

The influence of platelet-vessel wall interactions on leukocyte rolling was investigated in rabbit mesenteric venules (diameter, 21-40 gm) using intravital videomicroscopy. Puncture of the wall with glass micropipettes (tip, 6-8 ,um) evoked the formation of a thrombus in all venules. In most vessels, emboli were produced as well. The rolling of leukocytes (i.e., their movement along the vessel ...

Real-Time Label-Free Embolus Detection Using In Vivo Photoacoustic Flow Cytometry

Thromboembolic events are one of the world's leading causes of death among patients. Embolus or clot formations have several etiologies including paraneoplastic, post-surgery, cauterization, transplantation, or extracorporeal circuits. Despite its medical significance, little progress has been made in early embolus detection, screening and control. The aim of our study is to test the utility of...

Platelet Refractoriness and how it is formed

Abstract Background and Objectives Transfusion of platelet has become one of the main treatments for thrombocytopenic patients to reduce the severity and frequency of bleeding consequences. Failure to attain the desired level of platelets in a patient following platelet transfusion is defined as platelet refractoriness. The purpose of present paper is to review and study the mechanisms involve...

P-selectin deficiency attenuates tumor growth and metastasis.

Selectins are adhesion receptors that normally recognize certain vascular mucin-type glycoproteins bearing the carbohydrate structure sialyl-Lewisx. The clinical prognosis and metastatic progression of many epithelial carcinomas has been correlated independently with production of tumor mucins and with enhanced expression of sialyl-Lewisx. Metastasis is thought to involve the formation of tumor...

Differentiation between different pathological cerebral embolic materials using transcranial Doppler in an in vitro model.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The detection of circulating particulate cerebral emboli using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography has been recently reported. It has been suggested that this method might allow discrimination between different embolic materials; this would be very useful for selecting specific pharmacological treatment in individual patients. This study was designed to identify those pa...
