چکیده

tinct zones, each with different venous drainage. Between these 2 zones, a watershed developed. After the 2 chorioretinal anastomoses matured, blood flow through the venous tributary that bridged the watershed zone— the tributary connecting the inferotemporal branch retinal vein to the central retinal vein—was very slow (Figure 2B). The slow blood flow made that blood vessel susceptible to venous stasis-induced thrombosis, narrowing, and subsequent partial occlusion. This case illustrates retinal venous remodeling over time in response to modification of the retinal circulation.

Cardinal features of superior oblique myokymia: An infrared oculography study

Purpose Superior oblique myokymia (SOM) is a rare eye movement disorder characterized by unilateral oscillopsia and binocular diplopia. Our study aimed to better understand SOM using infrared oculography. Methods We examined and recorded five patients with SOM. Results Binocular infrared oculography showed that in primary gaze, all patients exhibited torsional oscillations, which worsened i...

Ocular findings in patients with spastic type cerebral palsy

BACKGROUND Refractive errors, strabismus, nystagmus, amblyopia, and cortical visual impairment are observed in 50 to 90 % of patients with cerebral palsy. Ocular abnormalities are known to differ according to cerebral palsy type, and spastic type has been reported to be more likely to be associated with ocular defects than the athetoid and ataxic types. METHODS A retrospective review of medic...

Superior oblique myokymia. Quantitative characteristics of the eye movements in three patients.

Using the magnetic search coil technique, we measured horizontal, vertical, and torsional rotations of both eyes of two patients with idiopathic superior oblique myokymia, and of the affected eye in a third patient. Superior oblique myokymia was strictly monocular and consisted of an initial intorsion and depression of the affected eye and subsequent oscillations with torsional and vertical com...

[Motorocular syndromes due to neurogenic hyperactivity and their treatment].

In this chapter we describe a variety of rare but clinically identifiable ocular motor syndromes, including ocular neuromyotonia, superior oblique myokymia, ocular motor synkinesis, third nerve palsy with cyclic spasms, and paroxysmal manifestations of multiple sclerosis. These syndromes share many characteristics. They result from neurogenic hyperactivity, causing episodic spasms of one or sev...

Model-based improvements in the treatment of patients with strabismus and axial high myopia.

PURPOSE Eye motility disorders with axial high myopia and an enlarged globe are often characterized by a hypotropia of the affected eye, usually referred to as heavy-eye syndrome. Based on an intuitive interpretation of magnetic resonance (MR) images, the cause of the hypotropia has typically been assigned to the rectus muscles. In this study, the hypothesis that the oblique muscles play an imp...
