چکیده

The desire to detect and identify trace amounts of airborne analytes, including combustible or toxic gases, small molecules, particles, viruses or bacteria with ever increasing sensitivity and selectivity continues to be one of the main drivers in sensor research. [ 1–3 ] While the variety of sensing principles continues to grow, most principles share a common feature which is the requirement that the analyte adsorbs on the sensor surface or interacts chemically or physically with the sensing element for signal transduction to take place. For example, adsorption and analyte interaction is critical in sensors that use an electrochemically active surface, [ 4 ] surface catalysis, [ 5 ] a mesoporous metal-semiconductor-metal network, [ 6 ]

Gas Sensor Based on Large Hollow-Core Photonic Bandgap Fiber

One concern in using photonic band-gap fiber (PBGF) as a gas sensor is the response time. In this type of the gas sensors, response time is the time required for gas to diffuse into the hollow-core. So considering a large hollow-core PBGF (HC-PBGF), the response time can be significantly reduced. But in the large HC-PBGF, the fundamental issue is the presence of higher order modes (HOMs). Somet...

ZnO nanoparticles as sensing materials with high gas response for detection of n-butanol gas

The high crystallinity ZnO nanoparticles with an average particle diameter 30 nm have been successfully synthesized with a surfactant-mediated method. The cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) and the hydrous metal chlorides (ZnCl2⋅2H2O) appear to be the good candidates for obtaining a high yield of nanoparticles. The structural and morphological characterizations were carr...

Effective localized collection and identification of airborne species through electrodynamic precipitation and SERS-based detection

Various nanostructured sensor designs currently aim to achieve or claim single molecular detection by a reduction of the active sensor size. However, a reduction of the sensor size has the negative effect of reducing the capture probability considering the diffusion-based analyte transport commonly used. Here we introduce and apply a localized programmable electrodynamic precipitation concept a...

Specific Fast Response CH4 Gas Sensor Based on Metal Oxide, Tungsten Carbide /SnO2Core-Shell Modified Interdigitated Electrode

In this study, a specific CH4 sensor is fabricated based on interdigitated electrode that modified with core-shell of tungsten carbide/tin oxide (WC/SnO2) nanoparticles by wet chemical method in different percents of carbon and tungsten. The morphology of wet chemical-synthesized WC/SnO2 core-shell was evaluated by different methods such as patterned X-ray d...

Hydrogen sensing by localized surface plasmon resonance in colloidal solutions of Au-WO3-Pd

Nowadays, hydrogen has attracted significant attention as a next generation clean energy source. Hydrogen is highly flammable, so detection of hydrogen gas is required. Gold nanoparticle based localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is an advanced and powerful sensing technique, which is well known for its high sensitivity to surrounding refractive index change in the local environment. We p...
