چکیده
VoIP over wireless local area network (WLAN) is an important application of WLAN and gaining more and more attention recently. In this paper, we analyze the maximum number of VoIP calls in WLAN and propose a new call admission control strategy, namely, adaptive transmitting interval call admission control (ATICAC) to enhance VoIP calls in 802.11 WLANs. In ATICAC strategy, Base Station (BS) adaptively changes the transmitting interval of the active stations to prevent the network from saturation by controlling the average collision probability pc of the network. The proposed model is in good agreement with our simulation results. ATICAC can not only ensure the QoS of VoIP calls in 802.11 WLANS in the network, but also increase the number of VoIP calls in the network.

متن کاملModified Isochronous Coordination Function for Enhancement of VoIP Call Capacity over IEEE 802.11 WLAN
VoIP over IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) is growing very fast and is providing a cost effective alternative for voice communications. WLANs were initially set up to handle bursty nonreal time type of data traffic. Therefore, the wireless access protocols initially defined are not suitable for voice traffic. Subsequently, updates in the standard have been made to provision for Qo...

An emerging killer application for enterprise wireless LANs (WLANs) is voice over IP (VoIP) telephony, which promises to greatly improve the reachability and mobility of enterprise telephony service at low cost. None of the commercial IEEE 802.11 WLAN-based VoIP products can support more than ten G.729-quality voice conversations over a single IEEE 802.11b channel on real-world WLANs, even thou...

With fast deployment of wireless local area networks (WLANs), the ability of WLAN to support real time services with stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements is attracting ever-increasing research interest. In this paper, we evaluate the capability of the point coordination function (PCF), which is part of the medium access control (MAC) mechanisms specified in the IEEE 802.11 standard f...
متن کاملAn energy-efficient transmission mechanism for VoIP over IEEE 802.11 WLAN
Voice over IP (VoIP) over WLAN (VoWLAN) is an important application for public and private WLANs. However, VoWLAN systems suffer from several technical challenges such as power consumption of a WLAN station (STA) and service capacity of an access point (AP), making the commercial deployment of a large-scale VoWLAN service problematic. This study presents a cross-layer and energy-efficient mecha...
