چکیده

Two contention-based algorithms are proposed in this paper for establishing ad hoc Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). They are named uniform and geometric, respectively, based on the nature of the probabilistic model in the decision making process used in each algorithm. The main performance consideration in this paper is the network setup time each algorithm requires. It is shown that the network setup time is an explicit function of the total solicitation rounds required. The paper is, therefore, focused on deriving the distribution of the total solicitation rounds needed for setting up a network. It is shown analytically that the performance of uniform is better than that of geometric. It also derives the asymptotic lower and upper bounds for the average setup times for uniform.

A Characterisation of the Generalized Quadrangle <Emphasis Type="Italic">Q</Emphasis> (5, <Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis>) Using Cohomology

If a GQ S ′ of order (s, s) is contained in a GQ S of order (s, s2) as a subquadrangle, then for each point X of S\S ′ the set of points OX of S ′ collinear with X form an ovoid of S ′. Thas and Payne proved that if S ′ = Q(4, q), q even, and OX is an elliptic quadric for each X ∈ S\S ′, then S ∼= Q(5, q). In this paper we provide a single proof for the q odd and q even cases by establishing a ...

A new homologous, cell-free system for protein synthesis has been devised for use with ribosomes and elongation factors from Aspergillus nidulans. Ribosome preparations from strains with either the suaAlO1 or suaCl09 mutations have a higher misreading ratio (non-cognate:cognate amino acid incorporation) in the presence of hygromycin than controls. They can be classed as fidelity mutants. These ...

Schensted-Type Correspondences and Plactic Monoids for Types <Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis><Subscript>n</Subscript> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">D</Emphasis><Subscript>n</Subscript>

We use Kashiwara’s theory of crystal bases to study plactic monoids for Uq (so2n+1) and Uq (so2n). Simultaneously we describe a Schensted type correspondence in the crystal graphs of tensor powers of vector and spin representations and we derive a Jeu de Taquin for type B from the Sheats sliding algorithm.
