Ablative therapies for small renal tumors

چکیده
Ablative therapies of renal tumors are steadily gaining popularity in clinical practice due to the many benefits they offer to patients. Moreover, ablative procedures hold promise in the field of uro-oncology for the best compromise between low invasiveness, high efficacy and advantages in terms of procedural costs. Reported outcomes with ablative therapies for small renal tumors are excellent and without significant differences for surgical procedures based on nephron-sparing surgery. Nevertheless, these methods for treatment of small renal tumors should still be confined to carefully selected patients. This review discusses the currently used ablative techniques in urology.

Radiology Rounds - August 2008 - Percutaneous Image-guided Thermal Ablation of Renal Tumors
While surgical resection remains the standard of care for renal cell carcinoma, there are a number of reasons why percutaneous image-guided ablative therapies are becoming established as a reasonable alternative for selected patients. Ablation therapies are associated with less treatment-related morbidity and mortality than resection, and can, therefore, be used in patients who are not surgical...

Lung cancer remains the malignancy with the highest mortality and second highest incidence in both men and women within the United States. Image-guided ablative therapies are safe and effective for localized control of unresectable liver, renal, bone, and lung tumors. Local ablative therapies have been shown to slow disease progression and prolong disease-free survival in patients who are not s...

The purpose of this article is to present in a concise manner an overview of the most widely used locoregional transcatheter and ablative therapies for solid malignancies. An extensive MEDLINE search was performed for this review. Therapies used for liver cancer were emphasized because these therapies are used most commonly in the liver. Applications in pulmonary, renal, and bone tumors were al...

With the increased use of advanced imaging techniques, incidental renal mass have become a very frequent finding (1). Approximately 13 to 27% of abdominal imaging studies incidentally identify a renal lesion , a fact that makes suspected renal cell carcinoma be diagnosed at an early stage (2). Most excised small renal cancers are classified as low grade at the time of diagnosis and synchronous ...
متن کاملThe role of biopsy in incidental renal tumours☆
PURPOSE Historically, the biopsy of renal masses was not advocated, and to date there remains some controversy on the role of biopsy for renal masses in making treatment decisions. With the widespread use of imaging methods, the incidental diagnosis of renal masses has increased, necessitating renal biopsies to better plan the management of these tumours. Here I review previous reports to defin...
