The Aluminum Electrode in AlCl 3

چکیده
Passivation Phenomena have been observed upon cathodic and anodic polarization of the Al electrode in AlC 13-KCl-NaC1 melts between 100 and 160 °C. They are caused by formation of a solid salt layer at the electrode surface resulting from concentration changes upon current flow. The anodic limiting currents increased with temperature and with decreasing AlCl content of the melt. Current voltage curves obtained on a rotating aluminum disk showed a linear -1/2 relationship between the anodic limiting current and w 1/2. Upon cathodic polarization dentrite formation occurs at the Al electrode. The activation overvoltage in AlCl3 -KCl-NaCl (57.5-12.5-20 mol%) was determined by galvanostatic current step methods. An apparent 2 exchange current density of 270 mA/cm at 130 °C and a double layer 2 capacity of 40 ± I0Op F/cm were measured. Biocompatibility of a xenogenic elastin-based biomaterial in a murine implantation model: the role of aluminum chloride pretreatment.
We have investigated the long-term effect of aluminum chloride (AlCl(3)) treatment on the calcification and inflammatory reaction of a porcine elastin-derived biomaterial (PEB) in a novel subdermal adult mouse model. Untreated PEB disks and PEB treated with AlCl(3) were implanted subdermally in BALB/c mice for 30, 60, and 180 days. The calcification of the elastin disks was examined with histol...
متن کاملCytotoxicity of Environmentally Relevant Concentrations of Aluminum in Murine Thymocytes and Lymphocytes
The effects of low concentrations of aluminum chloride on thymocytes and lymphocytes acutely dissociated from young mice were studied using flow cytometry with a DNA-binding dye. We demonstrate a rapid and dose-dependent injury in murine thymocytes and lymphocytes resulting from exposure to aluminum, as indicated by an increase in the entry into the cell of the DNA-binding dye, propidium iodine...
متن کاملEfficient De-colorization of Methylene Blue by Electro-coagulation Method: Comparison of Iron and Aluminum Electrode
In this study, removal of methylene blue by electro-coagulation method using aluminum and iron electrodes was investigated. The influence of the operating parameters such as contact time, current density, anode type, inter-electrodes distance, initial and final pH and energy consumption rate was determined. Dye removal was increased with increases in solution pH, current density and c...
متن کاملLoblolly pine and slash pine responses to acute aluminum and acid exposures.
In response to concerns about aluminum and HCl exposure associated with rocket motor testing and launches, survival and growth of full-sib families of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) and slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) were evaluated in a nursery bed experiment. Each species was exposed to a single soil application of aluminum chloride (0.33 M AlCl(3), pH 2.5), hydrochloric acid (0.39 M HCl...
متن کاملReactivity and derivatization of five-coordinate, chelated aluminum.
The convenient five-coordinate starting materials, Salen((t)Bu)AlCl (Salen((t)Bu) = N,N'-alkylene (or arylene) bis (3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylideneamine) (1-4) can be used in a wide range of reactions to form five-coordinate aluminum compounds. Herein, these reagents were used to produce new five-coordinate azides, LAlN(3) (L = Salen((t)Bu) (5), Salpen((t)Bu) (6), and Salomphen((t)Bu) (7...
