چکیده

This paper reports on a preliminary experiment to undertake in-flight radiance calibration validation (cal-val) of the NERC CASI. The approach involved comparing CASI radiance values of a single, wellcharacterised target with synchronised measurements of target radiance obtained at the ground with a calibrated spectroradiometer. CASI data were obtained at two altitudes: 853m and 3109m, in spatial mode using the default vegetation band-set. For the lower altitude image, there was very good agreement between the image and ground-measured radiance especially in bands 4 to 6 (670nm-710nm). An atmospheric correction based on the multi-height image data significantly improved the image versus ground comparison for bands 1 to 3, where scattering dominates. However, the correction performed less well for the two NIR bands coincident with the atmospheric absorption regions (band 9 at 762nm and band 13 at 940nm). For the asphalt target, estimating radiance from spectral reflectance measured post-flight combined with spectral irradiance measured during the flights was found to be a viable alternative to measuring radiance. Overall, the results suggest the method could be developed further to provide in-flight calibration validation of the CASI to supplement or replace the mid-season laboratory calibration.

Hyperspectral Airborne Remote Sensing of the Belgian Coastal Waters

On the 16th of June 2003 a CASI (Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager) hyperspectral airborne remote sensing campaign took place above the Southern North Sea, just offshore of Oostende. In coincidence with the airborne overpasses seaborne measurements of water leaving reflectance and water quality parameters were performed. In addition near-simultaneous satellite imagery are available. This p...

Field detection of CO and CH4 by NIR 2f modulation laser spectroscopy

A novel compact fiber-coupled NIR system based on a DFB diode laser source is employed as a portable and sensitive gas sensor for trace detection of combustion pollutant molecules. We demonstrate the performance of such an NIR gas sensor by tracing the absorption lines of CO and CH4 using 2f-WMS technique at moderate temperature of T ~ 600°C in the recuperator channel of an industrial furnace...

Can hyperspectral techniques improve estimates of carbon stocks in agricultural soils?

Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents one of the major pools in the global carbon cycle. However, fluxes of CO2 from soils into the atmosphere by respiration or inversely sequestration of CO2 through photosynthesis and subsequent immobilisation in the form of humus are difficult to quantify. In principle changes in SOC stock over time reflect CO2 fluxes. The detection of these stock changes, how...

Mineral Mapping Using Spectroscopy: From Field Measurements to Airborne and Satellite-Based Imaging Spectrometry

Mineral physics dictate the appearance of rocks and soils across the electromagnetic spectrum. In the Visible/Near-Infrared (VNIR) and Short Wave Infrared (SWIR), many materials absorb radiation at specific wavelengths, allowing their identification by the position and character of absorption features. Electronic processes at wavelengths less ~1.0 micrometers allow (in addition to others) ident...
