چکیده

Let D be a bounded domain in Rn such that ∂D is a union of a finite number of smooth hypersurfaces in general position. The asymptotics of the Fourier transform of a piece-wise smooth function f(x) with discontinuities of the first kind on ∂D, in particular of the characteristic function of D, is found in almost all directions. The results are based on our recent work on the singularities of the Radon transform.

Planelet Transform: A New Geometrical Wavelet for Compression of Kinect-like Depth Images

With the advent of cheap indoor RGB-D sensors, proper representation of piecewise planar depth images is crucial toward an effective compression method. Although there exist geometrical wavelets for optimal representation of piecewise constant and piecewise linear images (i.e. wedgelets and platelets), an adaptation to piecewise linear fractional functions which correspond to depth variation ov...

Algebraic signal sampling, Gibbs phenomenon and Prony-type systems

Systems of Prony type appear in various signal reconstruction problems such as finite rate of innovation, superresolution and Fourier inversion of piecewise smooth functions. We propose a novel approach for solving Prony-type systems, which requires sampling the signal at arithmetic progressions. By keeping the number of equations small and fixed, we demonstrate that such “decimation” can lead ...

Piecewise Polynomial Functions and the Fast Fourier Transform

Piecewise polynomial functions are frequently used to approximate functions that exhibit complex behavior across a variety of scales. We investigate the use of nonuniform FFT (NUFFT) approaches to quickly and accurately evaluate the first several Fourier series coefficents of piecewise linear functions, and propose a new NUFFT approach that provides quick convergence at relatively low cost.

Characterization and analysis of edges in piecewise smooth functions

The analysis and detection of edges is a central problem in applied mathematics and image processing. A number of results in recent years have shown that directional multiscale methods such as continuous curvelet and shearlet transforms offer a powerful theoretical framework to capture the geometry of edge singularities, going far beyond the capabilities of the conventional wavelet transform. T...
