چکیده

Objective—The goal of this study was to determine whether antagonizing microRNA (miR)-29 enhances elastin (ELN) levels in cells and tissues lacking ELN. Methods and Results—miR-29 mimics reduced ELN levels in fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells, whereas miR-29 inhibition increased ELN levels. Antagonism of miR-29 also increased ELN levels in cells from patients haploinsufficient for ELN and in bioengineered human vessels. Conclusion—miR-29 antagonism may promote increased ELN levels during conditions of ELN deficiencies. (Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2012;32:00-00.)

بررسی ویژگی‌های بافت‌شناسی و بیوشیمیایی دیواره سرخرگ و سیاهرگ در بیماران کاندید جراحی بای‌پس کرونر

Background: The occlusion of the artery and vein grafts are currently a major problem in coronary bypass surgery. Degradation of collagen and elastin, the most abundant extracellular matrix proteins in the vessel wall by matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs), leads to a rearrangement of the extracellular matrix and vascular wall structure. The present study aimed to compare the histological and bioch...

I-6: Remodelling Uterine Spiral Arteries inPregnancy

Background: During the first trimester of pregnancy the uterine spiral arteries that supply blood to the placenta are remodelled, creating heavily dilated conduits lacking maternal vasomotor control. To effect permanent vasodilatation, the internal elastic lamina and medial elastic fibres must be degraded. Failure of remodelling is a key characteristic of the pathological placenta and is though...

Dynamic expression of chymotrypsin-like elastase 1 over the course of murine lung development.

Postnatal lung development requires coordination of three processes (surface area expansion, microvascular growth, and matrix remodeling). Because normal elastin structure is important for lung morphogenesis, because physiological remodeling of lung elastin has never been defined, and because elastin remodeling is angiogenic, we sought to test the hypothesis that, during lung development, elast...

Functional rescue of elastin insufficiency in mice by the human elastin gene: implications for mouse models of human disease.

Diseases linked to the elastin gene arise from loss-of-function mutations leading to protein insufficiency (supravalvular aortic stenosis) or from missense mutations that alter the properties of the elastin protein (dominant cutis laxa). Modeling these diseases in mice is problematic because of structural differences between the human and mouse genes. To address this problem, we developed a hum...
