چکیده

In this paper we investigate (1) the measurement of health status for both adults and children) (2) the importance of health status measures in demand analysis for medical care) and (3) attitudinal measures toward health care and their role in demand for medical care. Finally we develop a structural model of demand for medical care) incorporating a number of health status measures as indicators of a comprehensive) onedimensional health status measure. The model also includes a productiondemand relationship which specifies the unobservable health status measure as a function of socioeconomic household and individual characteristics. We find that the choice of health measure in demand analysis should get more attention than is usually the case in the literature, for there are differences in the results of other exogenous variables in response to health status measures. Inclusion of a large set of measures as indicators in a structural model is one way (partially) to deal with this problem. ---------------------

The economic recovery that began in 1983 has been unusual in both its length and its modest antipoverty impact. The official poverty rate, which peaked at 15.2 percent in 1983, had by 1987 fallen only to 13.5 percent. Poverty in 1987 was well above the 11.7 percent rate of 1979, even though median family income in 1987 was about the same as in 1979. The recovery has been marked by a widening ga...

Crime supply functions are reestimated in this paper using data corrected for victim underreporting. It is found in both a meanvariance specification and a conventional crime supply function which includes measures of the offender's gains and losses involved in property crimes that certainty and severity of punishment still deter. When correction for underreporting is made, the effects on the r...
