چکیده

A total of 86 children (45 male) between the ages of 8-18 who were from families that were either at high- or low-risk for developing alcoholism were evaluated in a visual event-related potential paradigm. The children responded to two target conditions (hard and easy) and a blank condition by pressing an appropriate button. P300 amplitude was reduced in prepubescent boys who were at high-risk for developing alcoholism. Reaction time data for type of target indicated that, while latency was longer for the hard condition compared to the easy one, no significant differences by risk status were found. Performance accuracy did not differ by group status. These behavioral findings suggest that P300 amplitude is an electrophysiological marker of alcoholism risk in young boys.

Developmental delay in P300 production in children at high risk for developing alcohol-related disorders.

BACKGROUND Reduction of P300 amplitude in children and adolescents at high risk for developing alcoholism has frequently been reported. It has been hypothesized that this reduction represents a developmental delay in reaching age-appropriate levels in P300 amplitude. Using latent growth analysis of longitudinal data obtained at yearly intervals, this study seeks to define normal growth, and det...

P300 Component Modulation During a Go/Nogo Task in Healthy Children

ABSTRACT Introduction: Several differences in the P300 component are observed when responses must be executed or inhibited in the Go/Nogo task. However, few studies were established by using well-controlled task with respect to the preparatory processing and stimulus probability. In the present study, we examined the peak amplitude and latency of Go-P300 (P300 evoked by visual Go stimuli) and N...

P300 amplitude decrements in children from families of alcoholic female probands.

A total of 70 age- and gender-matched children and their relatives who were from families that were either at high or low risk for developing alcoholism were studied and the children evaluated using event-related potential paradigms from both the auditory and visual modalities. The high-risk children were ascertained through families at exceptionally high risk for female alcoholism (half of all...

Alcoholism risk, tobacco smoking, and P300 event-related potential.

OBJECTIVE The P300 event-related potential (ERP) is sometimes larger for individuals at low- compared to high-risk for alcoholism. These effects are inconsistent, and how P300 is affected by tobacco smoking in the context of alcoholism risk is unknown. The present study used P300 to examine the inter-relationship between alcoholism heritability and smoking status. METHODS P300 was elicited wi...

Thin-plate spline analysis of craniofacial growth in Class I and Class II subjects.

OBJECTIVE To compare the craniofacial growth characteristics of untreated subjects with Class II division 1 malocclusion with those of subjects with normal (Class I) occlusion from the prepubertal through the postpubertal stages of development. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Class II division 1 sample consisted of 17 subjects (11 boys and six girls). The Class I sample also consisted of 17 subject...
